    Hi guys,
Was just wondering if there was anyone out there with a Toshiba Satellite R830-10C who could advise me on how hot it gets.

I'm looking to upgrade from a netbook to a (cheapish) ultraportable (with dvd) and this looks like really good value for money and well reviewed. However, I've seen some comments on the r830-11c and -143 that seem to indicate they get very hot on the bottom. I realise the 10C is less powerful so should run cooler, but I need to be able to use this on my lap, leave it on sofa arms etc (not duvets or anything silly) without any issues or I'm better off going for something bulkier and cooler (dell vostro 3350 or the like).
Your advice would be very much appreciated
    Tintalla

I noticed that mine gets really hot on the left side where the vent is. Its one of the things that worries me.

Not sure if the below will be helpful, but I'll go ahead and post my findings.

Here's a full review of the Satellite r830- 11c [has an i5 with turbo boost].

If you go down near the bottom 1/3 of the page, it gives some details on the temperatures of the model.
The temperatures of the following reviews of maximum stress temperatures. "Normal" use shouldn't attain these temperatures.

The i3-CPU included in the r830-10c should not run hotter than the temps in the above review.

Here's a review of a r830-110 portege that includes an i3-2310m; this is an older model but still has the same i3-CPU as in the r830-10c.

Again the above temps are from heavily stressed conditions.

The best method would be to go into your local retailer and demo one of their Satellite/Portege R-series. Hands on interaction is always best.

Good luck and keep us updated with your decision.
