I have a toshiba satellite which is just over a year old. And i was having some problems with windows so i was just going to reformat and put a fresh load of windows on. I put in the toshiba recover disks that came with the laptop and went through and selected to format and delete all partiions. After that was done the computer turned off and now when i power it up nothing happens. The initial toshiba screen does not even come up. However all the lights turn on and the cd-rom is spining. Anyone know how to fix this problem. PLEASE HELP!!!! thank you.

You may want to try connecting the notebook to an external monitor. It may be the LCD that is dead. If you can see stuff from the enternal monitor, continue with the install. When complete, remove the external monitor and try again. If still no power, either the FL inverter is dead or the LCD backlight is dead. You'll have to send it in for service to get something like this repaired.

Can you get into the BIOS? If you can't get into the BIOS, then it's probably a systemboard or system ram problem. You'll have to send the unit in for service for this as well.

If you can get into the BIOS, then it's just an issue of not having an OS in your HDD. In this case, just reload the OS again. Make sure you're running on AC and not battery.

I have just had the same problem after using the recovery disk. LCD doesn't work but the external monitor does. The graphics card sees the external monitor as monitor #1 in a multi-monitor set up...

    Any ideas???

have you checked the BIOS for graphics related settings?

I believe the LCD monitor is inactive, and since you used an external monitor during the install, it is registered as monitor 1.

Have you tried monitor ID in graphics settings?

you should to try hitting Alt f5 at startup as this should be the way to switch between monitors...

Bios looks good "LCD / External Monitor" is selected. The only other option is "external monitor" and I know that is not right.

I tried Alt - F5 and got no response.

I tried Fn - F5 and it switches from external monitor to nothing (TV mode I think) then back to the external monitor.

    Any more ideas?

I tried to re - recover the computer with the external mointor unplugged (I had to plug it in occassionally to answer any onscreen questions that came up). It is still doing the same thing.

    Thanks

If you go to the Settings tab of the Display control panel, do you see two monitors there with one "inactive"? Try playing around with the settings there between the two screens.
