My advice: When you buy a new Satellite A70, better read instructions from A - Z.
Under the impression that I needed some commercial s/w to burn DVD-Rs for drag&paste back-up images, I follwed the global recommendations and bought NERO (OEM) because of inCD.

During setup of install, Nero insisted that I delete DVD-RAM, DVDForm(?) and Sonic. I had no idea what or who Sonic is.
Found a folder, sonicjapan, deleted it and also DVD-RAM.

Now I am having problems with cfmain.exe errors, and ConfigFree diagnostics no longer work with the nice pictures showing my Wi-Fi opportunities.

The suggestion by futureShop tech supp is: Restore system and reinstall all applications again. The will do the OS (XP Home, and then XP Pro on top) for CAD $90. a)is this the only soltion, an b) can I do that myself for $90?

    Thanks

I don't see why you couldn't do it yourself as long as you have the install CDs. You can get a copy of Nero on ebay cheap. Personally do not like packet writing software like InCD or DirectCD. Known more than one person who put in a disc only to find it black. DVD-RAM works real slick if your drive supports it.

I totally agree on that - DVD-RAM is the most comfortable standard on the market. Lifetime is at best as well. --
But back to the thread: You can do it on your own (System Recovery) but I am sure that the recovery would install Sonic and the DVD-RAM driver again as well.
What you can do is: Do a recovery, then first de-install DVD-RAM and Sonic from the system using their uninstall routine. After that insert the Nero CD and install Nero Burning..
I think that´s even more easy than it sounds and will probably work.

    Greetings,
    Luke

PS: One thing that you could do first is to find out if your drive is supported by Nero. Sometimes problems turn up with a number of drives that are not properly or not at all supported. But most probably it will work fine.
