Just bought a brand new T230-01H for a great deal. I wiped the default OS install and did a clean install of Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.

This machine has a U5400 CPU, 4GB of RAM. I updated to the latest bios, i.e. 1.50. It came with bios 1.00.

I really like this laptop but the fan is really getting on my last nerve. Even when the CPU load is very low it gradually spins up to full speed, and once it reaches full speed it never slows down again. Full speed is annoyingly loud!

Is there any software to control the fan speed on Toshiba Satellites? Something similar to 1810tray for the Acers?

Could be defective, since you said once it gets to full speed it doesn't slow down.

No idea about the fan speed option.

Looks like installing the Toshiba Power Saver utility included with the Toshiba Value Added Package solves the issue.

Now under Advanced settings for my power plans I have a "TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings" that allows setting the "Cooling Method" to "Battery Optimized".

Note that this gets rid of the "Cooling Method" option provided by default from Windows under the "Processor power management" option.
