    Toshiba Tecra A1 HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    WE just got a Toshiba Tecra A1 Yesterday. Now it was loaded with junk from the previous owner. So we Decided to Reinstall windows on it. We the windows setup started formatting the drive it stuck on 1% for about 1hour. The next Day we tried the windows 2000 installation and Win Xp (again). They both got to 100% then said your disk may be damaged or not turned on...

    Is the HDD bad or what? Also, is SATA supported with this Tecra Model?

    Sometimes it shuts down randomly only when the ac adapter is plugged. But, it still charges the battery normally and the Laptop runs fine on battery. Any suggestions...

    Were you trying to do a full format or a quick format? If it was quick, instead do full.

    I suggest you download the "Ultimate Boot CD" here:
    http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

    Burn it and make it bootable then pop it in the CD drive and power up the computer. There are a couple hard disk diagnosis utilities on the disk under the "Hard Disk Diagnostic Tools". If there are problems it should find it.

    The Tecra A1 does not have SATA. It is a little too old. FYI, it has IDE (ATA-5).

    The power issues are strange. The first thing I would try is getting a surge protector, just to be sure whether it is the laptop itself or the power source. It might also be a good idea to order a new power cable from Toshiba.

    EDIT: I'm curious... How much did you pay for the laptop?

    I need to reinstall windows on it with boot cd . When We bought it the guy said we need Toshiba Restore Cd. Can I find that anywhere for Ultimate boot cd without buying it.

    I don't understand what you're telling me...

    You said you attempted to install Windows which means you already have a Windows CD. It doesn't matter whether it is OEM from Toshiba (restore cd) or Retail from Microsoft. Both will do the job.

    The Ultimate Boot CD is simply to determine if your hard drive is bad, as that seems to be a possibility. That CD is free.

    Does this laptop have wireless? We can't seem to figure this out. By the way, the HDD was ad so we bought a new one. 30gb to 160gb. Anyway this laptop has a WIFI switch and a button to press under function. but nothing happens. the online manual says it has wireless but, the device manager doesn't show one. I installled all possible drivers for a possible wireless card. Nothing happens.
