Does anyone have any information on the Toshiba Satellite U305-S5127 13.3" Notebook? It's been one of the top selling laptops on Amazon for some time now and seems to have about the best stat sheet per dollar of any laptop available right now but I'm having the hardest time trying to find ANY information about it other than the few reviews on Amazon.com.

    Am I missing something here?

I can walk into my Best Buy locally and see a tethered cheapo version that has a battery removed.

I would like to see actual reports from owners and people who have been able to put the thing through some tests.

It looks as though every other laptop under the sun has a review, why not this one?

Here Here! Its so aggravating looking at computers at Best Buy! They have that stupid Geeksquad promo running the whole time, and if you ask them to take it to a desktop they simply stare at you blankly - like looking at the laptop and the spec sheet should be enough to base your desicion on.....

And even asking a person is a risk.. he may never leave you alone after that!

Oh, you want those test stats and those benchmark things.

From what I can see at the store, its nice laptop, but the keys are loose and cheesy.

    The palm rest gets warm.

Other than that, not bad for the price.

Yea I was totally pumped about this laptop but I did actually go into Best Buy and played with the keys a bit and did find them a bit cheap feeling. So I suppose it does really help to go in there and actually touch them. I just wish they didn't tether them down like that.

And yea benchmarks and stuff would be nice to. How are we supposed to know how long the battery lasts in real world situations? Or if the laptop will play any games?

Yeah. I "test rode" this computer at a Best Buy recently. Had the same issues with staff. Would really like to know how it performs in real life. Maybe bumping this thread up will encourage people to post if they own it? Worth a shot.

I just went to Future Shop today; let you what I found out. With the GMA X3100, the Santa Rosa model ran Windows Aero (the new 3D-accelerated interface exclusive to Vista if you have no idea what I'm talking about) without any hiccups whatsoever. The GMA 950 (non-Santa Rosa Core Duo) model on the other hand had occasional slowdowns when multiple windows were open. Of course, your average productivity software should run flawless on either machine, thanks to the 5400RPM hard drive on both models. Web surfing? Obviously not a problem. Just don't expect the 13.3" Toshiba Satellite U300 to be a multimedia gaming centre.

So how do we swap out that slow 4k speed 200gig hard drive for something a bit faster? I wan't the top of the line U300 but not their slow hard drive that comes with it. That seems like an error on their part.

That's strange, both U300 models in Canada have 160GB 5400RPM drives. Maybe you should opt for 40GB less of storage instead?
