How is the Toshiba U400-S1301 notebook and does this come with the fingerprint reader? The photos and some specs show it has it, yet other specifications do not mention it at all.

The Sony SR290PDB has a battery drain issue.

Cost is 1037.01 for the Sony SR290PDB with ATI 3470 vs $927 for the ToshibaU400-S1301 notebook with Intel X4500MHD since I have to add 1GB memory to the Toshiba as price without the 1GB module is $909 assuming the U400-S1301 has

I keep going back and forth between Toshiba and Sony.

I see in one place on the Toshiba website (in a summary of extras for the U400-S1301) that is shows a Fingeprint Reader. But the actual spec sheet doesn't mention it, so I'd be inclined to think that it does NOT have one.

Have you considered the Satellite E105-S1402 from BEST BUY (Blue Label)? It is only marginally larger (14.1" vs. 13.3") and barely weighs a half-pound more than the U400.

It's on sale for $999.99 this week and it includes-

    2.26GHz Intel P8400
    Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    4GB DDR2-800 RAM
    320GB Hard Drive
    14.1" WXGA (1280x800) display
    Webcam & Fingerprint Reader
    Intel 5100AGN + Bluetooth
    8-cell Battery
    FM Tuner
    2-year Warranty

My personal choice, if I was in the market for a 13.3" notebook, would be the Lenovo IdeaPad U330. The base model is usually priced at $1199.99, but there is currently a 15% off coupon that brings the price down to $1019.15! That includes 2.0GHz Intel P7350, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3450 (switchable graphics), 13.3" LED display, 2GB DDR3-1066 RAM, Intel 5100AGN, Bluetooth (and a ThinkPad-quality keyboard, to boot)!

The U330 is not Thinkpad quality at all. The price you mentioned on that 14.1" for $999 is more expensive than I can get the 13.3" one for which are more expensive. 14.1" is out of the question.
