Ok, I have a Toshiba Satellite X205-S9349. I've just recently started to notice that the USB ports are acting up. When I plug in something to the USB port (any of them) Some times it will recognize the device other times it won't. For example I have a wireless USB air card and sometimes when I plug it in it is recognized right away other times it says no wireless device recognized. When I go into the device manager it says there is no driver installed for this device which made me think there was something wrong with the wireless card or driver software.. so I uninstalled it and re-installed it, same problem works for awhile then craps out..I also have my wireless mouse in a USB port and it works fine but if i go to take it out after words when I plug it back in.. NOTHING, it lights up but that's it the cursor doesn't move and no windows device balloon pops up.. no ports seem to work after this happens.. can this issue be easily resolved do I need an update fro BIOS of some sort? Is there a setting that got messed up or what? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could be that selective USB suspending is on in your current profile, have you tried disabling that? If not, Toshiba released a new BIOS a couple of days ago (for mine anyways, not sure about yours, but likely), you could try that.

Selective USB suspending?!? I have no idea what that is, if you could tell me how to get to that I will check it out, if something is suspended however I surely didn't do it. Also if the BIOS update for Toshiba your referring to (v. 2.10 I think it is) I already tried that and i'm still having the same problem, I even tried to go back and install v. 1.90 for BIOS and it couldn't install due the fact that it was the same or already updated. I appreciate the help though I will try and look into that USB suspending feature.
*EDIT*
I just found that selective USB suspension mode, it is disabled so I don't think that is the problem, unfortunetly. -
It might be OS related so you could try a recovery if you have the time.

I was having the exact same issue with my p205. After doing all of the same things you mentioned in your first post, I did some searching online and found an issue with residual voltage on the motherboard causing fits with the USB ports. Hey, I'm no IT guy, but it sounded reasonable. The fix was simple...a bit of a pain every time, but simple. Turn the notebook off, pull the battery, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
Apparently, this allows whatever voltage may be remaining to bleed off. Mine's done it about 6 times in the past year, and this has worked without fail each time.
Hope this helps.
