Anyone call Toshiba with a problem, be able to diagnose over the phone and have them send a part for you to replace rather than always having to send the unit back to them.
This is important to me. My Gateway has had two problems in two years. The keyboard developed dead keys and the hard drive died. In both cases, they overnighted the part to me and I replaced myself. Downtime about 2-3 days.
Thanks for sharing experience []

Well, I have never called Toshiba for any of the problems I had with my notebook. I used to work in a Toshiba authorized service center, so I know everone in the service dept. I usually just get the parts from them and do the repairs myself, systemboards included.
But, in your case, Toshiba may only send out parts that are user replacable. Things like ram, HDD, wifi/lan/modem cards or whatever else is accessable from the outself of the unit. Keyboards may be a bit iffy since you will have to make contact with the systemboard when (dis)connecting the keyboard.
The only way to find out is to contact them and ask, otherwise, you're going to have to send the unit iin for repair.

My experience with toshiba is HORRIBLE. If only I had known how terrible is their international warranty... I bought a Toshiba Tecra M7 and the HD basically burned down. It has now been nearly a month and I am still waiting for it be fixed. They are waiting for spare parts from Canada (I bought it in Canada but I am now studying in the UK)... Their custumer service is terrbile, each time, they say they will call me back but in fact they never. They basically each time add a note to your file but never take any actions... basically they don't give a ****. Their sub-contractor is even worst (TELEPLAN). They waited 10 days to order the parts !! (impossible to have a clear answer why they waited so long)...
anyways, this is the last time I will ever buy a toshiba. I strongly advise anyone to disregard this company has you will get terribly frustrated if you have a single problem with your product EVEN if you are under international warranty. -
My understanding is that if it is deemed to be a user accessible part, they will send you the part and allow you to replace it yourself. I believe the only things they consider user accessible, however, are the hard drives and the memory units. Everything else goes to the Depot (good luck there, lol, here's a link to my currently ongoing experience with Toshiba: x205 forum
Good luck! -
