I am planning to install Windows 7 64 bit soon, I was wondering if I would need to update the BIOS to match (64 bit) and when should I do it.
Basically, I am currently running Vista 32 Bit with the latest 32 Bit Bios installed.

Possible to install windows 7 64 bit, then update the bios?
Or should I update the bios in vista 32bit then install windows 7?

Would the bios make any difference anyway? or should I just leave it as 32bit since i may put in my vista 32 Bit hdd back in at some point. Would this allow me to switch back and forth smoothly if I kept it as 32 bit? and if / else otherwise would I be able to do the switching if I had the 64 Bit Bios installed?

afaik the actual BIOS is neither 32bit or 64bit--when updating BIOS in windows one or the other needs to be selected depending on which OS you are updating with.

The BIOS doesn't care whether your OS is 32bit or 64--they can be run interchangeably without changing the BIOS.

hey guys. yeah i actually just did this last night. (upgrade from vist32 to 7-64) everything went fine as I installed according to the toshiba instructions. However there is an error with chipset drivers.(something is up with the chipset (I think) when i open device manager I see that the "other devices" _"mass storage controller is flagged. properties of the device show it located at PCI bus 18, device 4, function 2. says the drivers are not installed and can't locate them. when i googled several of the details (such as hardware id) i find some info but really its beyond my abilities to know what to do with the info. it looks like it is intel's chipset issue tho some think its a Tex Instrmnts issue other think its infared or bluetooth)

I called tosh support but they just said update bios, but I am already running the latest 2.5 bios update so I dont know he is talking about....anyway that's the way that seems to always go w/support.

sgilmore62, where is it possible to select either 32 or 64 when updating bios?

does anyone know how to access more of the system bios (besides the basic f2 menu)

    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=EU

I copied and pasted the URL after selecting the appropriate dropdowns but when you click the link it starts from the beginning as if no boxes were selected. heres a screenshot of the 2 BIOS. There should be a hardware setup utility for updating BIOS in Windows 7 that you may want to install first.

    Hey Tonyz,

like i said above: I installed windows 7 64 bit on a preloaded windows vista 32 bit x205. Working fine except for the problem I rambled on about..... but I fixed it. everything is running nicely now. (it was a texas instrmts driver for the memory card reader) sigh

Yup, I have everything working on Win7 64bit pro now too.

One problem I do have is that I cannot get google talk to work.
Also everytime I try to sign in to my itunes account within itunes (itunes for 64bit or 32bit install) itunes crashes out. Any of you had any luck?

This is very frustrating since I cannot authorize my account onto my machine so I can get my music to play.
