Hi everyone!
I bought my toshiba x205 over the summer and the first couple of months the performance was really great. Now all my new games are running bad and I can't figure it out. I do disk cleanup constantly and I also clean the registry often and update the drivers. The bootup is also much slower than before and the overall performance of the computer is shocking.
Any ideas would be great.![]()

are your virus/malware programs updated and working properly??? sounds like that is the problem. if you run those it may uncover an issue and solve your problem.
BUT....
honestly you would be better off by simply backing up any important info, doing a wipe and reloading your os without all of the bloatware that came on it.
you would probably save time. a few hours of reloading everything is shorter than troubleshooting some thing for weeks or days. -
Thanks for the reply.
I have AVG installed and working properly but my computer didnt come with a set of recovery cds. I do have a copy of vista laying around but I am hesitant to change the os beause I dont know if it will void the warrenty. Also I was wondering if it could be anything else? -

a couple of things. Doing a CLEAN vista install w/ SP1 will help performance. Just use the key printed on your machines label. The only drivers you'll need are updated Nvidia drivers, fingerprint, card reader, and bluetooth. Pretty much everything else will take care of itself, unless you use the a/v keys across the top.
The other thing is heat. After only a few months, my machine starting lagging severly in games. Check, and my GPU temps were hitting 105 deg C, and even shut the machine down a few times. A thorough vacuuming, followed my compressed air, followed by more vacuuming, returned it to it's original shape.
Only other thing would be to install XP. I get a full 12-15% better 3DMark scores, and everything is a bit snappier, just not as pretty. I belived Home Premium is eligible for a downgrade, but not sure about that one. I transfered a copy of XP from a retired machine. -
Thanks for the reply.
I did a fresh install of windows vista and it did improve the situation a little. Some games are still lagging though. I do use no dvd fixes on some of my games though could this slow performance?
Also I always airdust and the fans are clean so heat is not a problem.
Thanks again -

Airdusting alone doesn't totally remove the dust(if just moves in inwards). You might want to do a teardown anyways. Order some artic silver ceramique, some artic silver cleaner, and anything else you want while you've got it open.
Once I recieve my T9300, artic silver ceramique/cleaner, 4GB ram, and my new drives(WD 250GB 7200 RPM and intel x25-m) I intend to do a full teardown, cleaning, and upgrade(man, I hate having to ship to an APO/FPO. Sooooo slow. Hard to get excited when you get a shipping notice and that means that 4-6 weeks down the line you will recieve it).
Also, ya might want to do some things to registry/vista such as disabling indexing, 8.3 filenames, last accessed updates, powermizer, hibernation files, etc. Check the vista tweaks article for a full rundown. -
Its clean.
But do no dvd/cd fixes slow game performance because I think that might be a problem. -
seriously, if you remove one of the stock sticks of ram and replace it with a 2 gig stick you will see a marked increase in performance. that will increase the ram in the computer to 3 gigs which is all a 32 bit system can see for all practical purposes.
i just did it last week and i could not believe how much better the computer performs.
2 gig stick is relatively inexpensive at around 40 bux give or take a dollar depending on where you get it from. -
I think I will do that but I think I will give XP a try and see the results.
Thanks for everything -
upgrade your drivers to the latest, i have the exact same computer as you.
go to laptopdrivers2go.com and keep looking down the list till you see the driver that you want.
Also, go to toshiba's website and download all the drivers that are useful and the Value Added Package, that really helped me out.
After you install the Value Added Package, just uninstall it.
