Cant get it to work Need a updated Nvidia driver
tryed to install driver would not let me..so do we have to wait for toshiba to get us nvidia drivers? Does anyone know where to get updated drivers that work?
-
I will now install Vista and install the new BiOSHOCK v163.44 nVidia drivers. I will report how Bioshock runs @ DX 10 and @ DX 9. Give me one hour or two.
I tried bioshock already in xp with the native resolution 1440x900 and everything on high (dunno if antialiasing was on or not, looked still very impressive) and it ran pretty well. -
omg omg omg...bioshock runs very smooth at 1440x900, DX 10 effects on, everything high except antialiasing i suppose. if there are more enemies then it gets a bit slowed down but still it runs very well.
-
thats good news.......and everyone said it would run bad.....pessimists
-
Got a link to the driver?
-
I kept trying to get screenshots, but either it won't let me print screen or I forget where those files go by default because I can't find the pictures anyway.
Running at 1440x900 (1680x1050 was a bit much for it at the time), all settings high with DX10 effects on, it ran smoothly. The frames would generally run between 25-40. When there was massive water effects or lighting plus enemies it would generally go down to around 13-18. However it was extremely playable, even without using the newest laptopvideo2go drivers (whenever I tried to install them I had an error, so I'm running on an older driver). I can only imagine how well it will run when we get some good DX10 drivers come out. -
Thanks -
-
Very impressive news ! It runs very smooth even on high settings ? WIll try to get the game ASAP.
-
It wasn't perfect, but yes it ran at a playable level with DX10 enabled and high settings at widescreen resolution.

Bioshock demo is beautiful at 1440x900 (native res for me)
I have everything on. (x205-S9349)
Frame rate is usually above 24 and rises to 35+, but falls to 15 sometimes... credit given where credit is due... the game engine makes even 15fps feel playable. Not once did I feel the game engine was in my way to enjoy the game... No stuttering or waiting except the original load times to begin the demo. Let me put it this way, I actually didn't believe fraps when it said 15fps the first time... it most definitely didn't resemble 15fps in any other game I have played.
I HAD to update to the 163.44 drivers with a modded inf to play. Playing with the original stock drivers at stock clocks resulted in crashes all over the place with most of them being before I even started the game.
With stock drivers plane crash = game crash.
This of course disables overclocking... the 8700 being such a massively good overclocker, this hurts quite a bit.
I am confident that returning my 24% core OC and my 34% memory OC will help with the frame rate. -
I find that very odd, as I didn't have to update my 15x.xx drivers in order to play it. In fact I couldn't even get the 163.44 drivers to install correctly.
-
Ok used those drivers works great even fixed my prob with hooking my lappy up to HD TV threw HDMI 30in Wide Panasonic CRT
BTW Bioshock runs awesome anyone know command to see FPS Fraps wont work for me in this game not sure why
Movie Divx Format movies kinda cut off but you get the idea I will make a better one later

Yeah, I'd echo the experiences at 1440x900. Where is that overclockable driver?! -
Someone know someone at Toshiba?
A driver release from them using the 163.44 base with the right efficiency settings and with the overclocking tab enabled and actually working would make the x205 "the" DX10 gaming laptop for now.
Note the same would be true of any manufacturer with an 8700 and up-to-date + overclockable drivers.
Frankly, I am not quite sure why Toshiba ships this clocked at 625/700... heat is not an issue in this enclosure and the 8700 seems not only tolerant of higher speeds, but actually more comfortable performance-wise! -
Nevertheless, 163.44+VBIOS OC to 700/850 would probably do Bioshock some good -
Odds are a vbios OC to 750/900 would be the best combination of safe and power.
Anyone tried a vbios OC yet on the x205? -
OMFG I got Bioshock to run for a lil using base toshiba drivers in DX9 and then i went on here google'd the inf hacked beta driver and ran the whole thing through in DX10 mode no slowdown at all using the toshiba X205-s9359 version with 1680 x 1050 resolution and 512 MB of VRAM i swear i nut myself 3 times playing the game no joke.
-
Can someone please help me. I have a toshiba x205 s9359 and I can't play the bioshock demo. The game will start up and play the opening cut scene but once the bioshock logo appears the screen then goes black. Then I can only get back to my desktop by opening the taskmanager. When I finally get back to my desktop there is an error message that says bioshock encountered and error and needs to close (or something like that). I think it may have to do with my nvidia drivers, but I am not sure. I know I do not have the latest drivers because when I try and update to that 163.44 release the installation says something like my current configuration doesn't need an update. Could this be because the 8700 is not listed as a supported product with that update? I don't know, I just wanna play this game. Can you guys please help me. Also, is it safe to overclock the 8700 in my laptop? If so, is it worth it and how? Thank you.
-
Gotta look for the INF and separate driver download then when you extract the 7zip drivers to your desktop overwrite the INF file with the seperate one you downloaded the new drivers should install then. I just did that not even 2 hours ago and played bioshock straight through right after I did that
-
Where do I get a separate INF? Can you please also provide a link to where I should download the driver? I just want to make sure I don't screw this up.
-
Edit: These are the Vista x32 bit drivers my bad.
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14562
That has the driver and edit: "separate" INF file for vista 32 bit which worked for me -
That was a link for xp/2000, I need vista.
-
Ok I got the game to work. It seems to run very nicely at 1680x1050 with all settings on high. However, when there is a lot of action on screen fps does come into play. Will overclocking help? Is it safe to overclock the 8700 in the toshiba x205 s9359? If so how do I overclock it and what should I overclock it to?
-
Note this isn't crazy-mad-scientist overclocking as I didn't have to do it in a freezer...
Even at 800/1000, GPU temp did not rise above 68C.
The x205 enclosure is frankly amazing at cooling, your limitation will be the upper limit of the 8700 and DDR3 RAM installed in the x205's limit.
The problem at the moment is you must choose between DX10 (bioshock) performance with 163.44 drivers OR overclocking with shipped drivers.
I have not been able to get the 163.44 drivers to OC...
(And anyone that does that knows how they did it, I would love your input!) -
-
well then i guess at the moment I can't overclock seeing that the game only runs for me with the new drivers. Please post with new information when available.
-
First off I want to thank the guys who gave up info in this thread. I was searching ever since Bioshock's release on how to get it running on my Toshiba (same kind as above).
The modded .inf file was all I needed, all the days of headache were not necessary. I'm glad the community pulled this together when the release ended up being such a mess for so many people.
Now, with the pleasantries out of the way I can ask a question....
All this talk of overclocking has me wondering, how can I do it? I also have the nvidia 8700M GT and have tried to enable Coolbits but didn't really get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks -
In the release notes of the 162.22 nVidia drivers ou can read this:
You can download nTune here:
http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windo...7.00/5.05.47.00_ntune_winxp_international.exe
-
Even with ntune and changing the clock settings either higher or lower they just snap back to defaults and won't budge its not letting me OC at all :/ maybe for 3D marking i might roll back to old drivers but plan on buying bioshock so meh
-
I'm going to steer away from this driver for a few reasons.
1. I don't even have BIOSHOCK yet and probably won't for awhile
2. I don't even see the 8700 GT listed in the supported cards list
3. I'm gun shy now that my HD Drive doesn't work.
The games I play on the system work for me so I have no major need to update any driver or attempt to do any OC. Plus, what I'm reading from alot of websites, people are getting mixed results.
On another note. If you are successful with something, it would help if you put all the steps you did to make it successful. Once you post you did something, I bet more then a few people are going to ask you, "How you did it?" This will greatly help out the noobies so they won't be left in the dark. Or help out the vets that may have forgotten a thing or two. That's JMO. -
-
Why dont you guys try out ATI Tool 0.27 beta and see if it works. I can overclock my card so far in Vista with any driver I throw at it even though I still get crappy performance.
-
I hear you. When I first tried the Bioshock demo, got a dx10 error...come to find out, somehow it corrupted my d3dx10_33.dll file. I replaced the corrupted file and then installed the "bioshock" driver, and had nothing but problems with the demo. Everytime I tried changing resolutions in the demo it would hang. Then it was a crap shoot if the demo would even load or not, sometimes just sitting at a black screen. I then noticed that I could no longer view hddvd movies....just great. It took me 3 tries to remove that "bioshock" driver and get the original driver loaded again. I now have everything working again and have thrown bioshock and the driver into the trash can. This is my experience with an X205 and Bioshock. -
I installed the new drivers and they did a little but I still can't run the game. On the stock drivers it stop working and also disable my USB optical mouse. Now it stops working a bit later then before but this time I can use my mouse to close it without using task manager. Is there anything else I can do? I'll try to reinstall it (this is the demo btw).
-
I don't have bioshock either i just downloaded the demo.
Overclocking is just one of those things us tech savy PC enthusiasts do when we're bored and insecure about the size of our penis's at the same time. penis = laptop performance analogy bueler beuler (spelling?) anyway i'm going off on a tangent here. We enthusiasts waste time making our things run harder faster stronger and talking in notebook forums ahem.
I did'nt know ATI tool worked with nvidia cards.
I hear you on the stock drivers being horrid on CS:S i was getting terrible framerates and could see through walls good and bad. -
bumpedy bump bump bump i don't feel like searching for this thread if i need it again
-
just an FYI if you don't want the demo to leave sony's little fecal traces on your comp don't install the demo either
-
I cannot get them to work at all. I downloaded 163.44 at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14562 and used the Modded INF. When the drives install using setup.exe, and i restart, the drivers still are my old ones.
Any clues???? -
I had the same problem with the missing d3dx10_33.dll file.
Where/how can i resolve restore this? thanks.
-
About drivers:
Make sure to UNINSTALL previous drivers first.
You should have a standard VGA driver when you install the new one.
Missing DX file means you need to update your Direct X from microsoft's site.
(look for August refresh if there are no newer ones)
Also grab the microsoft hotfixes for Vista performance. -
But the August refresh on microsoft site is for updates up to DX9.03c, not DX10! ?

Hi,
It seems the 8700M GT in Toshiba's X205 has a stock gpu clock of 625MHz,
and a stock Memory clock of just 700MHz.
(As reported by running nTune http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.47.00.html)
However, the official 8700M GT specs from nVidia says the stock Memory clock is 800MHz!!!
See http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8700m.html
So we are short-changed of 100Mhz by Toshiba in our X205 ??!!!
(KernalPanic, in fact if you oc' memory to 938 is just +17%, not 34%...)
Can someone with a non-toshiba's 8700M GT check their memory clock?
