ok first off i am trying to find out exactly what processors i can upgrade this laptop with... it currently has the stock 7100 i know the 7700 will work but i dont want to short change it. If im doing it im doing it right. Can i use T9500 or X series processors?.

Also what about GPU's... ive been reading alot of forums bust most skip GPU's and dont give a clear answer on whether it can be upgraded and what with.

Third is it worth (as a student i can get widnows x64 for free) paying 80 bucks for 2 4gb ram cards and upgrading to 8gb of ram?.... i understand i need to replace the processor and the ram chips need the 800mhrz....

Any information i can get will eb appreciated.

Your chipset is the Mobile Intel PM965 Express, your best bet are the T branded intel processors, T7400, T8100, etc. You can go up to the T9500, but the X series seem to be not supported. If you are really thinking of upgrading here, best bet would be the T8xxx, since they are usually nicely powered and not that expensive as the T9xx's.

As for GPU's, everyone in here will tell you that it is not worth it. Usually Gpu's are soldered into the the mobo, thus being the first drawback of GPU upgrades. Custom laptops usually do let you upgrade, such as Xoticpc, etc.

I do recommend you to get only 4gb 800mhz, you won't notice the total 8bg unless you are using something that totally demands that kind of Ram amount.

One worthy upgrade is the hard drive, if you don't have a 7200rpm drive, it would be a wise choice to do so.

Hope this helps and see if someone agrees with me.

You can upgrade the CPU i downgraded one today to a t7100 from a t8300 ( long story ). The graphics card is modular so you could upgrade to an 8700m gt if you have an 8600m gt. You could also upgrade to SLI if you dont. Im not sure if they made 8800's for this laptop.

Yeah it does. The slot for the GPU is propitiary but you could upgrade from non SLI to sli and from and 8600 to an 8700 ( pointless ). I have one sitting in my room right now it just got worked on.

Now that is sweet...there you you go bro. if you got the money to do all those upgrades, why not sell the laptop and grab the extra cash and get yourself a new lappie that fits your needs????

BTW, what GPU do you currently have in the machine?? Is it a 8600gt or a 8700???

You can upgrade the processor, ram, and hdd(s), but not the gpu. As mentioned above, If you could go from an 8600 to an 8700, whats the point.

Now, as an X205 owner, let me warn you that upgrading the processor is no easy task, you have to completely disassemble the laptop.
Here is the guide for that ---> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=179789

Also upgrade to the latest BIOS before installing the new processor, if you go this way, I recommend the T9300 :D

I upgraded my X205 to a T9300, 4gb Ram, (2) 320gb 7200rpm WD Scorpio Black HDDs, and Vista x64 Ultimate, It's day and night from the stock components. But honestly, at this date, I would just buy a new laptop, there are a nice selection of powerful budget laptops, the 8700m GT is getting dated, and with ddr3 and 1066 cpus in newer laptops.
