Toshiba X205-SLI1 XP Install help - sound issues

How is everyone installing XP on their Toshiba X205's?

I have the X205-SLI1 and this is what I did:

I formatted my primary hard drive and attempted to install XP. It failed so I installed XP using the method described in another thread to slipstream sata drivers into the XP cd using nLite which worked beautifully.

Next, I downloaded the latest driver from intel - the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility.

Then I downloaded the latest video card driver from laptopvideo2go.com

Next I moved onto the sound driver.
As toshiba does not have any drivers on their US website I'm stuck.

I attempted to download the sound drivers from the EU website for the X200 series but that failed to activate the sound driver. So I downloaded the KB888111 patch I heard about. That still didn't fix it so I uninstalled the realtek driver and reinstalled it. Still no dice so I installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Codecs R1.87 from realtek. That still didn't work.

What am I doing wrong????!!!!!

How did you guys get your audio to work?

 

I used the vista sound drivers from Toshiba's website on my sli1 and my son's 9349 those drivers are the only ones I could get to work in XP.

 

I recently installed XP on Toshiba Sattellite X205-9800. It's a slightly different model variation than yours, most hardware is the same however. I have had major problems installing Audio driver for this. Confirming, have to install KB888111 patch for Windows XP SP2 first (google search this one), then download drivers for your modem (YES MODEM) from Toshiba download site (should be somewhere on Toshiba.com under support then pick your model and download). Drivers for modem are labeled as Vista drivers, they still work on XP. After I installed modem drivers my sound card drivers installed themselves. Not 100% sure if they are in that same package as modem and all the drivers are in the modem's .inf file or not, for me they may have been already on hard drive because I've tried installing RealTek Vista audio drivers on this thing before, and it did not work until I installed modem first. Just in case, might want to download RealTek Audio Vista drivers too.

Hope this helps. I've spent 2 days trying to get sound card to work on this X205. Makes you wonder what Toshiba is thinking, gaming laptop with Windows Vista?!!? No XP support?!? Half the games don't even work on Vista yet, probably never will. Sure newer games will be tailored to run on Vista, but this doesn't mean that all games that are older than a year should be thrown away. I have Vista and XP on this thing now, using VistaBootLoader 3.30 .

PS - If anyone else is interested in putting XP on your X205, you need to slipstream SATA drivers into your XP installation. Look into NLite and intel drivers for SATA for I believe Mobile Chipset PM965 Express, that's what this laptop is using. That was another day of headaches for me.

 

I slipstreamed the KB888111 into the Nlited XP SP2 install, and then just installed the latest Realtek drivers and have had no issues... not sure where the problems are coming in... I did also install the modem drivers, but had sound working before i got around to installing those drivers, so not sure what the catch is, but it definately isn't a bad idea to slipstream the hotfixes into the XP install itself.

Curious, what service pack did your XP install use? I had read of a few issues with sound and SP3, and I'm still using SP2, so maybe something there isn't playing nice together?

 

Im having problems w/ Xp on my x205 as well as well as vista x64 version (dualboot), its an sli3 though. I cant seem to find any network drivers. I got bluetooth working on xp and not vista64 and no wifi or lan for both. Any ideas? Also sound still doesnt work on xp, got a link to some drivers? thanks a lot.

 

what kind of wifi is it? the intel 4965 a/g/n wireless card? i got mine directly from intel for vista ultimate x64. could probably find both vista and xp drivers for it on intels site.

The LAN is a realtek, and i use the Toshiba provided driver, i got a bunch of my XP drivers from the European Toshiba page, http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe....earch&macId=&country=all&action=search&page=1

They have all the stuff you'll need for XP, works well. As for WIfI, use the driver from Intel like ack suggested, along with chipset drivers from Intel.

Hi dude. I got the same computer as you but im having difficulties to install XP. I can load SATA drivers actually for XP. Could you tell me how you installed your XP?, please. I really thank you.

 

Ok. I took a Windows Media Center Edition (enhanced Pro) 2005 CD and went to driverpacks.net and downloaded all the driverpacks and the base program. It integrates the driver packs into XP! Was nice, it even modified the XP installation to support all the SATA controllers. They had a nice GUI to integrate the driver packs into the source, real easy. I then integrated SP3 into the installation as well. So I burned a new MCE 2005 CD, now w/ SATA and tons of other drivers support and SP3 integrated. Booted it up on my X205-SLI1 and bingo, detected the hard drives.

Installed Windows XP, painless. The sound came working, realtek, it was automatically working thanks to the driver packs, as well as the onboard ethernet and wireless. But now I still have unknown device drivers, one that's unknown, one that's mass storage, one is for the fingerprint reader and I can't remember the other(s). I don't think the mass storage is the SATA controller though, cause under IDE/ATAP controllers I see the Intel ATA controller. So the drivers appear to be installed. Is the mass storage maybe the onboard memory card reader? Or something else?

I had an issue with the Video card though, it was detected thanks to the Unversal Driver Pack but it didn't work properly (window blue screened on startup until I removed it from device manager in safe mode). I ended up downloading XP Nvidia drivers for the 8600M off some other site and using a modified inf file to make Windows XP take it. It seemingly worked, I got the video card detected, but in the nvidia control panel I see nothing about SLI. What drivers did you use for the Video card(s), how did you get SLI working?

 

Well Video's working, Forceware 175.63 works great, SLI works and everything. Sound was easy enough, no real hassle for me. Modem was easy using the Vista driver. What about the Function buttons, like lock and brightness? I think I need Toshiba Value Added package but for windows XP, anybody know how to get these extra buttons working?
