    Hey guys,
The title says it all. I decided to run 3DMark Vantage again this morning to see how the newest drivers from LaptopVideo2Go would score. I installed the drivers as usual, restarted my notebook and proceeded to run the benchmark. About half-way into "Jane Nash" the screen suddenly went blank. I forced the computer to shut off, turned it back on and was greeted with a blank screen and a single beep every 3 seconds, which means that my graphics cards are obviously dead. This is the third time that this has occured in the 6 months that I have owned this notebook, so I am of course not looking forward to paying to ship it back to the service center, let it sit there for a few days, and receive a fourth pair of 8600M GT video cards and maybe another motherboard, both made around the middle of 2007. So, what I am asking is, am I entitled to a brand new notebook, since it has completely rendered itself useless three times over the last 6 months? The things that they have replaced in the notebook are:

    (3) pairs of 8600M GT video cards (SLi)
    (2) motherboards
    (2) HD-DVD Optical Drives

Seeing that Toshiba has probably exceeded the value of the notebook with the replacement parts, should I ask for (and/or they give me) a new notebook of equal or greater value since my notebook appears to be a lemon? I have yet to call Toshiba's customer service line. Thanks in advance for your opinions about this matter.

    Regards,
    J.B.

The Lemon Law requires 3 repair attempts before a refund is in order. If they want to be technical, they can make you get it serviced once more, but I would try just pushing for a refund.

There will need to review the unit once more for the lemon law to kick in, at which point, if you've discussed it with them before, whether you'd be receiving a refund or a replacement.

At least, that's how my place of work handles it. And yes, my suggestion would be to request a refund or replacement (my push would be refund), considering the amount of times they've had the unit in for repair. It's quite unacceptable.

Thank you guys for your insight. I guess that I can just call Toshiba and say "hey, my notebook has died three times in 6 mos, and I am dissatisfied with the quality and would like a refund"? I really liked this notebook when it worked, but I mean nobody wants to have their $2400 gaming notebook die 3 times while playing a game, do they? I'm not saying that Toshiba's product line is crap, which it isn't, but their flagship performance machine shouldn't die THIS much. When I bought this notebook, I wanted it to last a few years because I was paying top-dollar for it, and $2400 is pricey for a 16 (now 17) year old like me who works at barely above minimum wage. I guess I will fill out a FAQ to find out what other good gaming notebooks are out there, just in case Toshiba is really refunding my cash.

Your odds of seeing Toshiba hand you a new laptop are very slim. I have seen that once - and it was for a major company thats had hundreds of Toshiba laptops. Being a gaming laptop I suspect the first thing they will claim is over clocking......
