I just found this today. I am very angry about this and I am not happy. Wondering what this is and why. I am visiting Bestbuy today and I will complain about this. One of my question is what this plastic piece is ?

This is really making me angry, I am not happy about this and did not expect this to happy with my Toshiba.

I am also wondering why this piece is very loose ?

I am not happy. This is not my problem, I treat this laptop with all of my heart and never slam in my jack. Sure I can go on and live without the issue, but I paid close to $800 to have this laptop. I did not pay $800 for a piece of go loose AT ALL.

I hope you guys can understand my problems. Thank you.

If you are referring to the AC jack, it seems to be a common problem with some of Toshiba's older models (ex, A70, A100, A200) and is related to poor quality craftsmanship; the AC plug is simply soldered to the motherboard and usually isn't reinforced in any way.

One would think that Toshiba would learn from these problems, but at least it is easy to fix for one who is willing to dismantle a laptop down to the motherboard (the A100 and other models of similar construction are luckily quite easy to dismantle).

Thanks for the response, Bog. I am really not good with computers. Can Bestbuy fix it for me or do I need to send it to Toshiba ? My model is a Toshiba L300D-02808C

If the machine is still under warranty, then Best Buy will box the laptop and ship it to Toshiba for you.

PS; before you send it in, remove any media remotes or dummy cards as laptops come back with these missing.

Some laptops come with media remotes that fit in their Express card slots, and/or plastic cards that fit into the card reader for aesthetic purposes. It would be a good idea to remove these before sending the laptop in for repair, since they tend to disappear.

Some good news is that it isin't being sent into Toshiba. Went to Bestbuy and they told me that I needed to go to Futureshop since they deal with Toshiba's there. Anyways, I go there and they check it out and they say ok, we will be done with it in between 48 hours or so and if parts are needed, 5-10 business days. Ah well, what will I do without my Toshi now ? Anyways, I'm rather glad that it didn't need to be sent to Toshiba. Thanks for the help bog, the card reader slot was empty and all of the other slots were too. Thanks for the help again! I will deffinantly let everyone know how I made out in the next few days.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure it is just some plastic shavings stuck in there. You could just pull it out with tweezers.

I am almost sure it was not shaving. I did try to move it with tweezers but as I moved the piece up, the battery thingy in there lifted up so.

Well I decided to call Futureshop today since it has been close to 68 hours while they said they would call me at 48 hours to let me know what's up. Look's like they were busy doing nothing so they were waiting for me to call. I did, they said that piece of plastic is from accidential damage to the body case. Hmm, figure this one out. The laptop is 24/7 on my desk sitting in the same spot. Look's like the Laptop just has leg's and it walked off the desk. So anyways, they called and faxed Toshiba a estimate of what it would cost to get it fixed. $181 to fix the god thing. Holy hell, for a piece of plastic, I hope it would arrive with a pretty bow on it with it all shined up. Good lord.

Anyways, picking it up in about an hour or so. I'm not bothering to get the case replaced since you can't see it, nor does it do anything to the system. So, i declined the offer to buy it. Besides, $181 bucks for a piece of plastic ? Not worth it.

They checked out the webcam. It's apparently not the webcam itself but it's the webcam software.. Hmm, another thing I don't get. The webcam hasn't worked since Day 1 and it has only been on and off on and off. In my idea, it's Toshiba's fault and not mine. Way to blame me for everything you little.....anyways..they recommended me getting the original driver for it even though I have already tried to. Then they recommended me the Recovery Disk. Frig off, litterly. Anyways, whatever..just kind of happy I'm getting my laptop back today..been stuck with a 10 year old piece of trash since Monday.

You know you have a piece of crap computer when................you boot up MSN on your computer and you get a BSOD from it :)

Call Toshiba directly or return it for refund or exchange if you can. I'm no expert but that plastic piece looks like something in the chassis that you can remove. If you are brave enough, you can take about the laptop and look to see yourself. There is a sticky thread on how to disassemble Toshibas. Good luck.

Thanks for the response, but they already took it out. I would send it over to Toshiba but unfortuantly, I am 14 going on 15 and do not have much money for the shipping etc. Another thing is I have no backup that I didn't do it. My whole family told them last night and they even said...Ryan keeps his laptop on his desk everyday constantly. He never picks it up or even throws it down!"

He replies as "Well we have no evidence so you get what you pay for"

I felt like saying, you little dckhead, this thing was worth $850 and you have the nerve to tell me that ? I just grabbed my receipt and I chucked it at him and told him that I will never get my computer repaired there EVER AGAIN.

I don't know if my advice comes too late for you as I deleted my subscription to this thread, but the word of the customer really does come first; I've been in this situation before, having owned two models that required a dozen different repairs between them. If you insist that you did not cause the damage, then you did not cause the damage. If they continue to claim otherwise, then they are either accusing you of lying or assuming that you are ignorant. Either way they should have some evidence that it is caused by accidental damage and not by a manufacturing defect.

That's what gets me bog. As far as I am concerned, that guy showed poor customer service which lead me or my family or my friends to never get a computer fixed there. Poor customer service nowadays..

Webcam still isin't working..Updating software my backside. I'm sure they just cracked a joke, had a beer, and never looked at the thing. I tried updating again, never worked. I go into my control panel>device manager> and there is no tab saying my webcam. That is how I know it is NOT the software since Windows would pick it up.
