Is it me, or is outsourcing to a third world country for tech support on an enthusiast laptop a bad idea?

I haven't had to contact Toshiba support yet as I have only had my laptop for a month. Hopefully, I will never have to in the future but every laptop has it's problems and issues.

Another problem is Vista..I liked it at first but now it's starting to me off as the tray bar at the bottom freezes up a lot which causes me to restart "Windows Explorer". Does everyone else have this ?

It has happened to me in the past, but an update fixed this. What version of windows vista do you have?

Start> right click on computer> select properties. From that window you should know what version of windows you have and whether its 64 bit or 32 bit.

Are you trying to open a program whenever explorer restarts, or does it just randomly occur?

try going to start>control panel, then navigate to appearance and personalization>folder options>view tab, then check launch folder windows in a separate process. make sure your control panel is set to control panel home and not classic view. good luck, there are too many little problems with vista.

Vista is awful. Get Windows 7 as soon as it comes out!

Did it work? All it does is prioritize opening a separate window by creating a new process thread within explorer.

I have another question. Is it fine to do a disk defrag about once a week ? or is it better to do it once a month

If you install and delete alot of programs and files then once a week, but if you just go with the flow and rarely download/install anything, then once a month should suffice. The standard disk defrag that is coupled with Vista is useless. Auslogics disk defrag or Diskeeper is a much better option.

How about Disk cleanup ? Does disk cleanup hurt the drive if you do it more than once a week or 2 weeks ? If I remove the files from my hibernation folder in the disk cleanup will it prevent me from putting my computer in sleep mode ?

I think sleep mode is a Windows task, as for it hurting your comp....I have been using Diskeeper Pro for about 3 months now, with no problems, only enhanced performance.

the only problem i have is the mystifying method to get this thing upgraded

if i cant max this thing out with a higher cpu/gpu combo in the next couple months ill have to buy another

proprietary nonsense, fairly put off mobile computing as a result but not enough to deny myself the convenience...decent machine but needs more...always needs more...

    :/

The CPU is upgradable, I have a T9600 in mine. As for the gpu, perhaps in the future Toshiba will actually accommodate the enthusiast market they are actually trying to penetrate with the Qosmio, The biggest problem with this so far has been it's employees, that have trouble understanding the king's english that most users speak. I guess it would be easier if I spoke Thai. They put this enthusiast laptop on the market, without the slightest clue of how to support it properly. I believe thats the wall we are running into with upgradability. Either the employees should be retrained to help the demographic that buys the Qosmio X series, or they should all be replaced with techs that are capable. Just my two cents.

I really liked the Staind ones...you kinda sound like the lead singer from the group "Seether". Very talented.. I can actually see you going somewhere with your singing someday. Thumbs up to you. :spinny:

Thanks again Ryan, I might blush from comments like that.lol....Seriously, though thank you for your humbling words of encouragement. Well if I ever find a band thats as ambitious as I am, maybe I'll get my chance to contribute to the world. God knows I've written enough lyrics waiting for a band.

I'm also on myspace karaoke, please feel free to check it out. http://kSolo.MySpace.com/christopherq ...Ariels was my first and favorite.
My vocal repetoire increases with every song I sing. Not sure how I do it, just that I have absolute control over my vocal cords, and I get better with time. I sing in order to put the word out that I am serious and that I'm looking for a band.

Sheesh did anyone download the new Windows Vista update ? I just got mine today but it says it came out on the 27th or 28th. Long installation, took about 1 and a half hours.

    Oh well..That's Windows for ya.

I have a toshiba portege m800 and I recently upgraded the system on it from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate and bumped up the ram from 2gb to 4gb, but even with more ram the laptop's fan still comes on for long periods of time. It never used to do this before on the Vista Home Premium.

Is the Vista Ultimate more taxing on the processor than the Home Premium edition or something?

In a word, yes. If you have dreamscene playing in the background it is constantly decoding and looping video. With EFS BitLocker enabled, it is constantly encrypting every new file on the HDD.

    Awh..!

There is a major rain storm here at the moment...its nuts. Winds are about 70 km/h and it has been raining this morning.

Last night, my street was starting to flood as the Train station by my house also started to flood.

So....I take it that this is the part of the tornado that hit Oklahoma..
