Beware before you buy Toshiba laptops, I have Toshiba Satellite laptop and before a few days my screen became so dim that I can't see anything on it. I did some search on the Internet and found several discussion threads mentioning the same problem I'm facing and apparently it's some Inverter problem. I called Toshiba support line and their attitude is "your 1 yr warrenty has expired, so do whatever you want to do with the laptop, we don't care". And the so called customer relation personnel is interested in get away with you as soon as he/she can, because they KNOW it's a manufacturing defect in their product and they don't want to listen to your logical arguements. For sure, I would never ever buy a Toshiba product again.

If it's the screen itself, you might have to replace it, which could be very costly. If you need guidance on how to disassemble your notebook, take a look at cj's "How to Disassemble Toshiba Notebooks" thread.

I would hazard a guess that he has had it for over a year, seeing as the notebook's 1 year warranty has expired.
