    Hey all,

I've just done a clean install of XP, (not recovery disc) and can't install any display drivers, including the ones from the toshiba site. It runs through the install very quickly, asks for the reboot, but when windows boots back up, the display adapter is still the standard VGA one, and the install hasn't worked.

Any ideas on why it would be doing this/how to get around it?

I've turned my virus proggy off before install as well, and I've installed all the core drivers from the Toshiba site for the laptop too.

    Laptop is -

    M30 Special Edition
    1.7gig Centrino
    NVidia G-Force FX (with 64mg)
    512mg Ram
    etc

Thanks in advance, Im a bit desperate..

Well, the only thing that comes to mind is that you may be using the wrong driver for your card. Since you've tried both the drivers directly from Nvidia & Toshiba and none have been successful, there could be something else causing the problem. Since this was a manual load of the OS (non-Toshiba discs), this could also be a possble source of the problem. If you haven't installed the display drivers yet, you're probably not too far into the install of the OS. I'd recommend restoring the OS using the Toshiba supplied CD's. This way, if the drivers still don't work after a reload from Toshiba's discs, you'll know it's a hardware problem and you need to send it in for repair. But, if it works, you'll know it's a software problem, possibly OS or other software/driver causing the problem.

Hrmm.. I'm pretty damn sure its not hardware related, I remember when I had the original install on it (from the toshiba discs) none of the newer nvidia drivers would install/update either. It would do the same "Installation is complete" but not have actually done anything.

And, because I'm so smart, I've lost the Toshiba disc :)

Also, surely if it were hardware related, I wouldn't have a display at all? And this email would be a thing of miracles..

Having a hardware problem doesn't guarantee that you're notebook won't be working. It just means that the drivers are not finding the required info from your hardware for it to be recognized. It's like users with ATI Mobility GPU's in their notebooks and trying to use the drivers from the ATI site for a desktop card, it's not gonna install since it can't locate the correct h/w ID. A slight mod to to files to add the ID and it installs without any problems. Your problem could be a similar case.

Now, if you said that the drivers never were capable of being installed even from the original install, and you no longer have the recovery cd's, well, the only suggestion is to contact Toshiba and get a copy of the restore CD's. Otherwise, you're S.O.L., sorry. [ :(]
