Hi, I was recently planning on buying a new laptop and I wanted to see what laptops they had at the source. I found they had a Toshiba satellite on sale (don't know model) that uses 1.83ghz intel celeron processor. Dunno graphic card. 1gb of ram. 180gb hard disk (i think). With Windows Vista HP. for $699

I live in Canada and I am wondering if this is a good deal... and if the source is good.

Also can this run Halo 2? I don't care on full graphic setting but I would like to play it smoothly.

Please forgive me if this type of thread doesn't support the thread.

Just based on what you said, I'd say it's not a very good deal since the specs are pretty bad. For a pre-built laptop, I'd go with BestBuy or Staples if you want to look at it before you buy (if not, fill out the form in the "what notebook should I buy" thread).
I'd highly doubt that laptop's ability to play even Halo 2 since I'd bet good money saying that it has a cheap either Intel GMA 950 or X3100 (both useless).

I'll look around for a cheap laptop with a low end dedicated graphics card so you could play Halo 2.

EDIT: what's your preferred price range? And how future proofed do you want it? Anything other than Halo 2 you'd use it for?

    Staples:

(I'd personally go with the HP since I've had bad experiences with Acer)

    BestBuy:
Nothing reasonably within your price range with a half decent (8400m gs or higher) GPU.

Ok, I thought so... good thing I asked. I'll go to staples and buy a toshiba. i did the what laptop should I buy with no avail. Too many mixed results and most I can only buy online so I'm like NO! I'll go get a Toshiba at Staples in Edmonton :)

Edit: I would use it for video editing, warcraft 3, halo and halo 2, linux, programming, 3D modeling (rarely do. use blender) learning about computer repair, and picture editing.

    Edit 2: Probably -$1000

I don't know how interested you are in those two laptops, I tried to pick the best price/performance ones since it seemed you were on a fairly tight budget. However, if you don't mind the fugliness of the Acer in the above link, it is actually quite a good laptop.

EDIT: for your $grand budget, I'd definitely go with the Acer, however, (just based off personal experience with lemon model) get an extended warranty, at least 2 more years over the standard one year (totaling 3 years). Unfortunately, this will put you over your proposed budget but I'd say it's worth it since laptops are difficult to repair since it's hard to get parts.

If they don't have that Aspire you should get a raincheck on it since it's quite good, though the CPU could be better (but it's still fine for your needs).

But he was looking for something that would play Halo 2. That laptop will technically play it, but not acceptably.
