I have a toshiba p300 (see sig). When I open my computer, it lists drive D: as DVD-RW, and drives E: and F: as HD-DVD. So I was thinking wait a minute, does this guy have an HD-DVD player? After convincing myself this was the case, I went out and bought a bunch of discounted HD-DVDs.

So I pop in the HD-DVD "Army of Darkness", thinking "awesome", until the drive decides it cannot recognise the HD-DVD. Since it has the regular DVD version on the other side, I flip it, and it works (but not High Def of course).

So what gives? First, why does it show these extra drives E: and F: anyway? Secondly, why does it state they are HD-DVD drives?
