alright well its coming close to my 14 day grace period where I can decided to or not to buy a extended warranty service from FS..now my question is am I better off getting toshiba's warranty extended plan, or the FS PSP. Does any one if toshiba allows you to buy the warranty before the original standard 1 years is up?

If they haven't changed it again Toshiba will allow you to purchase extended warranty for 6 months after your purchase date. It use to be anytime within the first year. I would stick with Toshiba vs a 3rd party warranty extension.

not sure about PSP FS (dunno the store/retailer) but i'd always get warranty from manufacture over a retailer.

They must of changed it back to a year - last ASP memo we got from them it was 6 months - then again if you were to call back you may be told something different. I would stick with the Toshiba warranty - if you have an ASP center in your area your turn around time if you need a repair done should be much quicker.

one gripe, Toshiba makes you pay for shipping to get service (at least they did when my DVD-rom failed). Lenova always sent out a box, prepaid for my previous laptops.

If your aftermarket warranty includes shipping, might be something to consider. I have a 2-year extended from Toshiba on my machine, but hope to never need it.

ASP = Authorized Service Provider. Go to www.csd.toshiba.com
Then click on Repair center - then go to locate a service center. Once there pick your state and enter how many miles out to look and it will give the locations. You will see star rating if the service center is rated and those ratings are based on the customer opinions.

We are located in Ohio and we get people that will ship in from surrounding states for repair. You do have to pay for shipping and insurance both ways - but its generally under $40....... I can't speak for other service centers but even when shipped in they will generally go back out a business day or two after receiving them providing there is not a back ordered part etc.

Im pretty sure all that FS does is to do some basic troubleshooting and then call up Toshiba and shipping it out instead of you doing it.
If you don't know nothing about computer/electronics this might me a good idea but otherwise I don't suggest it.
The FS PSP is 3 years total including the first year factory so it is really 2 extra years.

I bought the Toshiba SystemGaurd with accidental damage coverage. It was cheaper than Futureshops warranty and has the accidental damage clause. Futureshop computer repair department is less than desirable IMHO.

Am wondering what the cost for warranty is when purchase through Toshiba... I bought a laptop at Future Shop today, and they said the manufacturer's warranty is for one year, and that for a Future Shop warranty, it would cost me $160 for two years, or $250 for three years... I didn't purchase any additional warranty, mainly because I was trying to keep costs down.

Can I ask how much the warranty costs from Toshiba?

I think when I called I got a special deal and saved like $50.00 or $100.00. I cant remeber if it was a special promo or if I got the deal just for calling. But do call, you dont have to buy.

I JUST got the Toshiba 3 year warranty on both my U405D and P305D. It includes System Guard (Accidental Damage and Handling); Service Express (choice of carry-in or send-in service); and Extended Warranty for three years...

    $279.20 for each machine
