Does Toshiba whitelist / blacklist wifi cards in their BIOS like HP does?

I have a Satellite A665-S6086. Just tried replacing its stock wifi card with an Intel Centrino 6235 (2x2 dual-band wifi + bluetooth 4.0) and couldn't get it to work. The card is detected by Windows. It shows up in Device Manager and I even get the wifi icon in the system tray, BUT it sits there with a red 'X' through it and it never shows any wifi network around.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Just checking, but did you install the drivers from Intel?

If that doesn't work, make sure your laptop has the latest BIOS:

As for your question, I'm not aware of any blacklisting done by Toshiba.

Good luck and keep us posted with any updates.

Yes, the first thing I did was install the latest driver for the card directly from Intel's site. I'm on the latest BIOS as well. The wifi button above the keyboard didn't do anything either when this card was installed.

After reinstalling the stock wifi card, everything went back to normal.

if you have drivers installed and device manager doesn't show errors, then your card isn't being "blacklisted" or anything.

Are you sure you didn't get your antenna leads mixed up or not fully snapped on?

Tried the antennas the same way they were plugged into the stock card AND tried reversing them. Both times their connectors were fully seated. Tried the card in a different laptop and it worked fine in that other laptop.

What other explanation could there be for the card not working in this Satellite?

you are lucky and brought a HP/IBM card. Do your card have 2 black "box on the left hand side?

The Intel Centrino 6235 is from eBay. Like I said though, it works in other laptops.

What brand are your other laptops?
Where it come from does not matter.

Ok, looks like these newer Intel cards just don't work in the Satellite A665 series. Just found some threads on Toshiba's forums with users having the same problem.
