Well I am considering purchasing a Toshiba x205 from Amazon.com

I have a few questions though...

It comes with a standard 1 year warranty, is that directly from Toshiba or through Amazon. (Assuming Toshiba)

I can purchase an extended warranty plan from Toshiba correct?

How much would it cost for me to purchase a 2 year extension warranty from Toshiba? (Making the total warranty last 3 years)

Does Toshiba's extended warranty cover shipping cost both ways?

    Thanks

Okay, the warranty the came with the machine is the one stricly from manufacture thats always the basic and is always one year. I don't think you can buy a extended warranty unless you buy the machine on toshibadirect.com. But tigerdirect.com offers a extended services beginning when the manufactures warranty ends starting at $189.99, thats means from the day you decide to go to toshiba site and register the product. But you need to buy the machine on tigerdirect.com, unless the person or place in amazon.com offer a extended warranty. For 2 year is $210.99 like I say starting at the end of the basic warranty. Well good luck...

Actually, I just ordered an extended service plan on my X205 from Toshiba.

You do not have to buy the laptop from Toshiba in order to buy an extended service plan from toshibadirect.

They have a number of plans available. and they are selling them @ 10% discount right now.

You can get a 2 year extension on the warranty now for 134.00 and you can add 3 years Service Express (basically puts you at the front of the service line with priority turn around in 48 hours for repairs at either a premier service center, or pre-paid overnight shipping, by Toshiba, to their depot center) for 179.00 right now. There are other plans as well including bundling accidental damage coverage (for more coin of course). By buying the Services Express, you get that layed over top of your 1 year mfg warranty, so it sweetens your default warranty services levels if you need to go in the shop.

You have to order extended service plans via their phone order desk and you must have the Toshiba Model Part Number and the Serial Number to give them. If you have not yet registered the laptop, I recommend you register it first, that's less info you need to provide (like purchase date proof).

I went with the 2 year extension + 3 year service express for the $179.00.

Oh, and when I registered my X205 on line with Toshiba earlier last month, I got a 15% off coupon in my email. They let me use that against the regular list price on the service extension, so I got an extra 5% off with that for a final price of $169.00. Not bad for 3 years of extended warranty with priority service express. :D

Phone service was fast, and the sales person on the phone was very friendly, courteous, and good attention to detail. Painless process.

The caveat on the extended service plans (which Toshiba actually uses an independent underwriter for, as do many companies) is that the policy limit on repair benefits = your original purchase price of the unit. Not likely to be a problem really, but that's fine print you need to be aware of. (and you can down load the full terms and conditions off the toshiba site.

    Cheers.
