hello everyone,
im new to toshiba's family , and this is my first post here , hope all the
members will welcome and greet me as a new member in this @ss-kicking
fourm![]()
Recently i got my Toshiba x300-158 and it has the following :-
1-HardDisk 640 GB
2-4 GB RAM
3-Geforce 9700 gts
4-P8700 2.53 Ghz core 2 due
5-windows vista 32bit (by default on my machien)
im a hardcore gamer and would like to run crysis warhead at Max on my
laptop ... what do u guys think i should do ?? , i saw so many posts here and
almost all of them are interesting but they are old (mostly in 2008) ,
so there might be new updates for my GPU , bios and etc etc .... what do u
guys suggest ?
any recommandations for tweaking or overclocking my laptop?
and is my GPU built-in ? or can i change it later on with a better GPU?
go easy on me guys... i know what does overclocking means but i have
never practiced it![]()
thanks for your time...

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
u woudlnt be able to run crysis on max, even with overclocking.
if you overclock, you can run crysis warhead on gamer settings, with a couple turned down to normal and get around 30fps.
the cpu and gpu can be changed, add in a second HDD.
u def need to get 64-bit OS, and i recommend windows 7 64-bit RC, which is free to download and use until next year. to do this either get a second HDD, or do what i did and partition the HD. i never use vista anymore, only windows 7 64-bit.
cod4 i can almost max out at full resolution, just turn down shadows and youll get 40+ fps, without even overclocking.
GRID, prototype, RCT3, fifa09, fallout 3, burnout, Cs source and alot more i can max out at full, or almost full settings without lag.
i have the same GPU and RAM, but i only have a p7350 which im going to upgrade by the end of this year to a x9100 and getting a second 500GB HD soon.
u could upgrade your GPU to 2x 9800M GTX in SLI (i believe) but im prob gonna upgrade to just 1 9800M GTX later this year.( about a 500$ upgrade)
could also upgrade keyboard to an illuminated keyboard.
heres my 3D06 score overclocking
superoverclocked, barely stable:
GPU: 696/1050/1800
RAM: 7/6/6/15
8412 3Dmark06
super O/C'd, but stable:
GPU: 695/995/1795
RAM: 7/6/6/17
8394 3Dmark06
stock settings:
GPU: 530/799/1325
RAM: 7/7/7/20
6750 3Dmark06 score
other people can go a little or alot higher, but this is the max i can do.

"u could upgrade your GPU to 2x 9800M GTX in SLI"--Tornbacchus
There are no parts available for such an upgrade as Toshiba has not offered a Qosmio with such a configuration. If you wanted the 9800m gts sli card then you would have to get a different mobo I think because it has an Nvidia chipset rather than Intel. The models that have sli have Nvidia chipset, all others have Intel chipsets. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
oh alright, so i have an intel chipset, so i wouldnt be able to get SLI?
i havent researched all of this since last year when i was looking at getting a laptop. im not getting SLI, but im just wondering. -
Thanx alot "Tornbacchus" for the fast reply , i knew u would come to enlight me , ur posts are all over the fourm
...
such nice infos u displayed !! but i wanted to ask , how can i overclock my GPU ? is it by using the BIOS ? or do i need a
special software ? if so can u recommand few of them
btw is windows 7 64bit good for games? ( i heard games always crush under that OS )
is it better than vista 64bit in terms softwares compatibilities issues ?
i read that 300x thread by "dude55" and its amazing i almost found an answer to every question i have , but what i didnt get is when he said the following
"Core Clock 530 MHz - Max is around 700
Memory Clock 799 MHz MHz - Max is around 1000
Shader Clock 1325MHz - Max is around 1800"
from where can i adjust these numbers :S ???!#$#!?? i scaned Nvidia control
panel but i couldnt find where to overclock my gpu n manipulate these
numbers ... should i do it from bois ? (went to bios n i couldnt find these
numbers! maybe because i have a diff version...mine is 2.10 ) -

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
well above where i showed that i overclocked my GPU, and i overclock my GPU in NVIDIA control panel. since i have an intel chipset, i can only overclock my GPU in NVIDIA control panel ( thanks sgilmore for clearing up that SLI has NVIDIA chipset), so since you have the same graphics card as me, it should be the same.
download this: http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...idia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.03.html
heres how i overclocked (im new to this as well, but i got it working):
start up NVIDIA control panel
on the left side under performance, click on device settings.
you can now see the GPU clock speeds. the default factory shipped for my 9700MGTS is:
530/799/1325
the first number is the core clock, second is memory clock and third is the shader clock. you can see it from top to bottom on the control panel.
first i downloaded 3dMark06 and ran the test at default clock speeds, where i scored 6750 (you'll get more because of your better cpu)
next i started overclocking by upping each setting a little each time try:
675/975/1700
if during the first 30 seconds of the first test of 3D06 you get above 50 fps your good. i just kept going up a little each time, where i then arrived at 695/1050/1800 this is the max i can do. in the first 30 seconds of the test, i get 60 - 63 fps, if i go any higher, my screen starts flickering and my fps drops to 10 - 15, so i know ive gone too high. some people can go higher than mine, while others cant get up to where im at.
save the profile but DONT tell it to run at startup, it isnt necessary and will strain your GPU. i only turn on my clocks for running crysis warhead which is the only game i really need it for.
i havent tried benching my computer in windows vista, but i never use vista anymore. startup in w7 is alot faster, and everything is very fast. i think that games run better, and i havent had any compatabillity issues.
if your worried about drivers, i just use the toshiba drivers off of their site. even though their for vista 64-bit, its fully compatible with windows 7 64-bit. ive only had i issue with the fn key, but i dont use that anyways.
u should use a 64-bit OS, since your not getting the full use out of the 4GB of DDR3. you could also overclock your memory in memset. its factory set to 7-7-7-20. read the first page about overclocking the memory. i did it for benching, but other than that i leave it alone because its already fast enough for me.
also if you havent changed your monitor colour, go to NVIDIA control panel and up the digital vibrence (which is needed on this laptop) to get a better picture)
just a few tips for overclocking:
-dont overclock with the laptop on a carpet, lap or bed. preferably run it on a hard surface or a notebook cooler.
-keep an eye on the fps when getting into the higer overclocks. if you hit an overclock where you get 65 fps, then you overclock a little more and it drops to 10 -15fps, the screen flickers or you see particles or flashes, end the test and bring it back down to a safe overclock to prevent damage to the computer.
-keep an eye on the temperature by using HWmonitor before and after the overclock. my GPU never goes over 55c, and cpu never goes over 70c. -

Simple Overclocking method
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=360567 -
Thanks again for your fast and detailed post "tornbacchus" i did everything u
wrote and almost got the full picture of what i gotta do Next... but i faced
one problem ... My damn GPU temperature is ( 55C Min ... 74C max .. avrage value
is = 57C ) i dunno why my GPU temp is already over 55
C without even overclocking it !! maybe because im living in a very hot
country but comon the AC is fine here, isnt suppose to cool down my GPU??
or do i need to get "Extra fans" under my laptop?
(btw the cpu temp is far below that core 0 = 27C and core 1 = 25C )
Should i proceed with over clocking ?!
============================================
Thanks "Tunay" for these links they really helped me understanding the risks
of overclocking , hope my laptop will take the extra burden -
74 C is fine. I have seen 102C without overclock. Incrasting Core/Mem/shader will not incraste the temps. so much. But when you incrast voltage (We Qosmio owners can't) temps. will rise with 5-10C

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
wow your core temps are low, mine are 60 - 70c.
if your worried about the heat, prop up the back of the laptop with a deck of cards or something.
i made my own notebook cooler for my laptop. i has 2 fans on the bottom and it keeps it super cool.
heres a tutorial i made
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=300297
the cooler mainly cools the GPU i guess because its located closest to the laptop fans -
UPDATE :-
i overclocked my GPU to (695/995/1795) same like u "tornbacchus"
at first in test one i got 71 to 72 FPS ... i was amazed but when the fight
started between the soliders it droped down to 33 fps i think ... (guess
because now my GPU has to proccess a wider space)... anyhow i ran cryisis
warhead and played for 30 mints (i think) ..and guess wht my GPU
temperature rose to 90C.. is that good or bad (for the long run) ? also , i
read sumwhere that there are specific drivers which are better for gaming n
other drivers which are better for movies etc etc .. is that true ? if so then
which Nvidia driver is the best for gaming ??
sorry guys , i know i ask alot
======================================
welcome back "tuηay" , no way 102C without overclocking ?! damn that guy must be the "black duckling" amoung us haha, hope everything will be
alright with (him/her)
Thanks mate for passing
"End of transmission" -
oops i just saw ur post after i wrote mine ...
also, man u are amazing u made that by urself ?? ur cooler is awesome Thanx
for sharing ur experiance ... u Rock ..
waiting for ur reply ... for post #12
thank you for you time mate. -
comon guys ... 3 days without a reply .. guess the exparts are out of town
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
yea thats normal when you get into larger spaces. i drop to 21 fps minimum. 90c is pretty warm, but not dangerous.
yea my cpu is 60-70 on my cooler and not overclocked, which is pretty normal ( i think )
the drivers i use are just the newest ones off of NVIDIA's website, but i know others use laptopvideo2go.com drivers, but i dont use em. -
Yes, 90 is warm but not critical.
My max temp usualy under benchmark is 83C whitout cooler. My max temp is same with and without overclock. I also use newest driver from nVidia's website. -
Thanks alot bros ,
im still at the testing stage .. didnt change my OS or anything but im plannig soon , for the time being i wanna enjoy sum gaming, lets play on hamachi guys
i posted another problem in Games fourm (Gears of war )
if u got any background bout it just dont hesitate to post -
