Hi - does Toshiba's "instant on" media software work like HP's Quickplay? Does it play dvd files on the hard drive? Better yet, can anyone give their thoughts on this software? Thanks.

Can't play DVD files on the hard drive, Quickplay can't do that either.

Yeah - Toshiba's software can't access DVD files on the drive - it enables you to play DVD discs/CDs and MP3s and will also allow you to view pictures stored on your HD as well.

Strange, mine can't do that. All mine can do is play dvd movies or music cds, whereas the HP QuickPlay software can do that in addition to playing music off the hard drive.

Maybe I need to update my software?

Well, its my dad's Qosmio (G15), so it might have a few extra media features than the standard Satellite or Tecra. You should be able to do basic things though, such as playing DVDs/CDs.
