Two quick questions before I decide. How is Toshiba's quality overall, also warranty service? What others does it compare with. Also, I thought I saw a couple of weeks ago in an ad, a 14-14.1 screen, with fingerprint scan and a web cam. Does anybody know what model that might be? I've looked and can't seem to come across it again. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Toshiba's have excellent screen quality.
I've only had good experiences with them.
I had an older toshiba my dad punched and it still works.
The keyboard dented and the frame, and that thing still kept on going.

Quality also comes at a price - you can't expect exceptional quality from a $800-900 notebook

I've had 3 toshiba notebooks out of 7 notebooks i've owned. Overall, I've been very happy with the quality of the Toshibas...although one of them had a cheap ($20) part fail that totally blanked out the screen. This is apparently quite a common problem with cheaper Toshibas.

One other thing though...Toshiba notebook keyboard layouts are really, REALLY hopeless!

I think toshiba quality is so good. My father bought the tecra A7 last week I've got the pleasure of working a little with it. The price compared with other brands like acer is bigger but you pay more quality

How's the build quality for the Toshiba A100-SK9 model?

A100s are so-so for build quality... I noticed a lot of them have a lump or bubble type warp on the bottom left of the back of the screen near the hinge... lots of them also have misaligned/warped screens.

Other than that they seem to be built fine. About as good as you will get for the price.

I've also noticed some keyboard and palm rest flexing in that line of notebooks as well. The back screen cover is also on the mushier side in terms of build quality.
