Hey guys, I'm starting to look for an old HP replacement and one of my requirements is a backlit keyboard. So far, in my price range, only the Envy (on sale), Dell (XPS and Vostro) and Sony (13") have this feature.

Are there any Toshibas in the sub $800ish range that have backlit keyboards?
I know nothing about Toshibas and since online reviews can be misleading I thought I'd check with you guys. It's a small thing I guess, but I do like the fact that Toshiba places the speakers up near the screen so that they're not muffled by a person's lap or hands/arms.

Are Toshibas fairly reliable? I know this can be hit and miss since HP's have a bad rep in some models but in my case, my zv6130us (6+ years old) has been flawless and still is. It's just a single core (upgraded) 2.4ghz unit and I'm ready for something lighter (mine's about 9lbs lol) and faster.

    Thanks!

    Jeremy

Back-lit keyboards are a common option these days with just about any brand of laptops. You can go to Toshiba Direct | Buy Laptop Computer Systems and Accessories and customize your specs and select Backlit keyboard for about $40.

As far as reliability, yes Toshibas are pretty much trouble-free machines as I've owned one with zero issues for more than two years until I gave it away a few days ago due to design issues (comfort and feature). I replaced it with a customized Dell XPS -- also with Backlit keys, which will be in my possession in mid December.

Yeah, the Satellite has a great looking backlit keyboard to me, I'm just thinking about that interesting wood bark chassis texture

The XPS 15 is the other unit I'm seriously considering...

^^What immediately sold me was the price difference, I got a $1,600 XPS 17 with monstrous features like:

    Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.2Ghz
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    1GB nVidia GT550,
    Blu-Ray,
    1TB 7200RPM (2x 500GB),
    1080P screen,
    Back-lit Keyboard,
    JBL 2.1 sound system.

The Dell has TWO USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 (one w/ eSata), dual headphone jacks to share, also JBL sounds with a 15-Watt Subwoofer on the bottom. Not to mentioned the beautiful aluminum casing and 12 months 0% financing!

The FINAL PRICE came out to $892!!!
Toshiba wasn't anywhere close. I jumped on it like fly on you know what and never look back! Will be receiving it by mid Dec.
