Stupid thing really, but my cat sat on the laptop keys about an hour ago and since then my touch pad hasn't been working.
I've tried deleting and re-installing the program and that hasn't worked so for now I'm stuck using a mouse.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

The connection for the touch pad is directly under the keyboard. I can't imagine how a cat on the keys could do it, but if you already tried to re-install the software, maybe you should take a look at the connection. In general, you have to lift the spacer above the keyboard by gently lifting a corner and working around the edges until it comes loose. Most are friction fit, so no screws have to be removed first, but you should find a service manual for your model to be sure. Once this is out of the way, the keyboard is usually held in by 2 screws. They're very small, so don't lose them. You can swing the keyboard out of the way to see the touch pad connector. Look to see if it's evenly inserted into the connection. If not, gently pry the 2 small plastic tabs at the edges of the connector away from the connector which will release the cable. Once loose, push the cable back in as far as possible and push the tabs back toward the connector to secure the cable. This should solve your problem.

NO. Do this. Hit the Fn key plus F9. That is the short keys to disable or enable the touchpad.

Ha, te kitty got ur mouse! LOL!

Nah, but really, the key combination listed above should do it. Otherwise read your owner's manual or look it up on Toshiba's website.
