Toshiba notebook with a TruBrite technology for occasional use on a sunny veranda -- bad idea?

No, you will need an enhanced disaply for that.

What is enhanced display?

They put a reflective coating over the LCD. It makes the colors on the screen much more vibrant. They have wider viewing angles and are much more easier to use outside. They do however have more glare. Some people that bothers, others it does not.

How can it be easier to use outside if it has more glare?
Doesn't matter. I took a look at the Toshibas at Best Buy today and the difference between the TruBrite and the non-TruBrite was enough for me to risk any glare. The TruBrite is a much more vivid display. The colors on the non-TruBrite looked washed out by comparison. -
It's better for outdoor use because its colours don't wash out nearly as easily as "regular" screens do in sunlight.

On the afternoon and nights, it is brilliant. On a bright sunny morning, its still great, and only when if theres a black background do i see my own face, in which case I can fix my hair a bit [:I]
