    Hi,

I need to learn more about the nature of the TruBrite screens. I've got a G35 AV600 sweet desktop replacement & media center. Unfortunatelly it seems that the top layer(the shiny one) cracked. I have to check with toshiba but I don't think they will replace the whole screen. To replace it all is $600-800, that I wouln't pay since it's too much and besides that I can use it as it is...

The screen doesn't have any other issue, just the top plastic/glass cracked from top to the bottom.

Any ideas how can I fix this ? I will try to replace with a picture later this week.

Feel free to drop your 2 cents anytime :)

There is no reason to fret until you have heard what they have to say about it. Unless you have aboused it in some way I don't see why they would not replace it if it a manufacturer error and it is under warranty.

Yeah, if its a workmanship defect, it should be covered under warranty. Qosmio screens can be extremely expensive to replace too since they're the brightest on the market currently.

I will give that a try but I don't have a proof of purchase.

Here's the full story. The company I work for sells lots of goods to our customers. Once in a while they sell to the employees the returns or defective merchandise. This is one of those items, I paid under $500 (which was an awesome deal)

They only gave me a receipt of the transaction but they say that's not a proof of purchased. It only reads the amount payed and there no ref. to the item.

That's why I try to understand how the screen is built.

My guess is Toshiba has some sort of record for it. Again wait to hear what they have to say about it before thinking the worst.

I called them up. A technician will look at it next week and decide if they'll cover it... There is a record and it's covered, we'll see...

Bad luck, they said the screen is cracked(top/shiny layer) and they won't cover it. The computer has no sign of impact and I think was probably damaded while being handled in the box if that's right then I'd say that's Toshiba faulty packaging that cannot sustain 9.9lbs content properly...

    The good things are
    - it cost me under 500
    - I usually use it to code and that's on white bg. and the crack is not visible on white.

What do you think ? Anyone knows more about this TrueBrite technology. Can I change the top layer easily or that would be impossible ?

    Thanks,
