Trying to help Sister over phone!!!

Well need somebody's help. Like subject says, I'm trying to help my sister over the phone. Her Tosh. Sat laptop is not starting up and the f10 or f11 keys just blinks. She says she gets to the point of signing in sometimes and then one or both of those keys starts to blink and then the computer shuts down. I'm thinking she hit a monitor out function key or something and its stuck in that mode? I don't know. Its hard because I don't have a toshiba and being over the phone with her is next to impossible.
Any ideas? If tried a search but not luck.

Try to see if you can start the computer in safe mode.

 

Ya, we gave that a shot and no luck. Same thing. Goes to sign in and then screen goes blank. I know it can be just about anything from memory to power adapter but I was just wondering if she had hit a function key by mistake that triggered something like monitor out. I don't know the setup and she is pretty lost when it comes to computers. I'd go over there but. . . . . . well the games are about to start!

 

Update: Well she is now able to get to safe mode screen but then when she selects an option it then shuts down again. Its doing this plugged in and in battery mode now. Thinking maybe memory.

 

You haven't yet run Memtest? That should be one of the first things you do.

 

Well if the machine would boot up then she would be able to run mem test but can't get that far. Shuts down. Again, trying to help her over phone so I can't take out memory and put in my machine and run mem test.
