You can essentially, temporarily, disable speed step by setting your computer in "High Performance mode" in Windows Vista or by setting "Always On" in Windows XP in the powerplug/battery icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen near the clock.

Ill assume your default voltages were detected correctly.

Okay now go into the 'Maximal Performance' subprofile.

-Tick Use PST transitions box for AC power.
-Choose a multiplier on which multiplier you want your CPU to run on

    6x - 1.2ghz
    7x - 1.4ghz
    8x - 1.6ghz
    9x - 1.8ghz
    10 - 2.0ghz

After choosing a multiplier, Go to the Main profile page and choose Maximal Performance on the drop down boxes for Current AC Power and startup > Hit APPLY

Your CPU should now be locked on whatever speed you choose.

i didnt really understand the multiplier part. i chose 10 because my CPU is a 2GHZ. does that make sense?

Yes. If you want it to run on full speed then choose 10.

    Was it successful?

it is and it isn't. it IS definatly stabalized. in this audio prog (guitar rig 3) it would jump 5 to 6%. i belive this was because of the speedstepping. now it will fluxuate with only 1%. seems acceptable.

the only problem is that the red CPU overload icon in the audio app is going red which means there is something wrong. any ideas to fix.

THANK YOU so much for the help. a def improvement.

its so program specific i think i would be wasting your time. sorry for *almost* wasting your time. again, it is a BIG improvement with your guide. BIG!

would you recommened maxing out the CPU or going a little under?

That will depend on the CPU utilisation of your application. Try it a 6x and see if the output is OK. If so, then the CPU will be cooler and the fan less busy. If 6x is not OK, try 8x.
