I purchased Toshiba's U405-S2856 a while ago. I tried to install XP but gave up as I cannot find all the drivers needed (especially Cantiga related).

Then I went back to Vista. I formatted the entire hard drive, and put the system recovery disk. It looked as if the recovery was complete; VIsta booted up. However, the "Final Configuration: Caution: DO NOT STOP" automatically started and the systrem automatically rebooted. Then, Vista booted up and again the "Final Configuration" started... and endless loop. I force stopped the process and rebooted the Laptop but nothing changed; when I booted up again, "Final Configuration" automatically started...

    Could anybody help me??? Thanks!

It only seems endless. I reinstalled my U405's operating system, and it took two or three hours, with far too many multiple reboots, doing what appeared to be the same thing, over and over (the message is very generic, that's all--the processes going on, invisibly, are different--it says "Final Configuration", but it really doesn't mean it--believe me).

If I am remembering correctly, about half way through I discovered that alt-tab revealed unseen windows describing what was going on each step of the way, and it was tedious little things, each one requiring a reboot. A lot of the time was being taken up reinstalling the billions of little bloatware programs the computer comes with--things I immediately had to uninstall.

I hear you. I've purchased three Toshibas in the recent past, and have had to spend a couple of hours on each one removing the bloatware they come with. How frustrating...and some of it is pretty embedded so you really have to look for it.

Good info in this thread, though, if I need to use the recovery disk. Hopefully, that won't happen, but if it does, I will just leave it on for as long as it takes.

    Thank you Michael, and Built,

Yes, you are right; It's just it takes forever

After the "Final Configuration" screen shows up, the laptop reboots for several times with the same screen pops up each time, taking a couple of hours. After the installation is over, I have to uninstall all the junks that come with the recovery disk. Basically, the recovery disk recovers to the initial state, with hundreds of useless software which slows down and (occasionally crushes) Vista. So there is no way to "clean install" vista. Always you get corrupted install. Basically no benefit of trying "clean install".

The bottom line is just be patient, and stick to the initial Vista as long as possible.

Hopefully XP drivers will be easier to find (probably I can find outside of Toshiba's website but I am not confident if I can find them all and make them all work properly...) so that I can ditch vista and clean install my XP...

Thanks guys and sorry to respond late!
