I just purchased this laptop and its the second one I have had. The first one was replaced by Best Buy as there was no way to get the unit to recognize a Kingston 512 meg mem stick in the second mem socket. Now I am having the same issue with this new P35. Im begining to believe that it is a probelm with all the P35 units and these models. After looking at the socket more closely there seems to be a plastic barrier in the socket which prevents the memory stick from fully being insterted. There doesnt seem to be a way to remove this barrier though and there is nothing in the manual about it. Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be and how to get around it. I need at least a gig to do video.
I tried both the new and old stick in socket one and they both work, neither work in socket two and Toshiba tech support is about useless.
thanks for any help.

Usually, the "barrier" that you're talking about is the "key" added so that the memory is put in the correct way & the correct type is used. Since you said you tried the old module in slot 2 and didn't work, I can only assume there's something wrong with the slot/systemboard. Are you sure you're plugging into the memory slot and not the WiFi slot? One thing that you should check is in the bios to make sure your notebook is in "Boot Mode". It's said to make sure it's in this mode before powering off the unit. Another possibility is that the memory is not compatible with each other. I've heard of issues where the CAS speed, is not identical, can cause similar problems.

Thanks for the response, as to the barrier Im not referring to the locati ng key. What I thought was a barrier s actually that the spocket depth fr socket two is less that half that of socket one. Under the dim light I was using las night when I worte the previous post it loked like there was a barrier preventing the memory board from seating all the way into the socket. This is not the case it is just the base of the socket itself.
I also checked the Bios and there is nothing like a "Boot Mode" anywhere to be seen in the bios nor is it mentioned anywhere in any literiture I have with the unit. I am beggining to believe that your last suggestion is the answer to this problem, the second mem board is from Kingston and the primary which shipped with the unit is a Samsung. While the part numbers show that the specs are identical. Im not sure that is truly the case. The other issue is that you cannot use the second slot by itself I susupect that is why you cant boot with only one of the mem cards inserted into the second position. Anyway, I will either have to purchase a second kinston to try two of those or find a second Samsung to try. Either way I feel Toshiba is not paying attention to things enough if its this difficult to order memory from their own site and get it to work properly.
Thanks for the help
