I owned a Toshiba laptop for four years and thought it worked really great (despite the CD player breaking and the wireless becoming erratic at times), the laptop itself did it's job without that "program not responding" message coming up.
Recently, I tried ordering a laptop from Toshiba since it was time for an upgrade. I ordered the Satellite L305-S5883 for $680 this past weekend. Although my credit card company authorized the purchase, Toshiba claimed they could not verify the address and cancelled the order (without notfiying me by the way like they said they do in their sales agreement --- I had to call and find out why).
I then called my credit company to see what happened and Toshiba as well. My credit card company said they had authorized the purchase. I called Toshiba, explained what had happened, and a new order was put into place and the purchase was authorized right away by my credit card company again. However, it has been two days again and I strongly believe Toshiba will cancel the order again.
I've never had any problem using my credit card; this was literally the first time I've ever had a problem. Now, they're selling the exact same laptop for $800...so I suspect something is not right.
Even if the laptop may have been sold at a small loss; I'm sure that loss would not have been worth losing a loyal customer who talked up their products.

I'm unhappy with Toshiba because they gave up on HD DVD!
-
. That is a big loss. (I'm not sure if Toshiba has this policy.)
However, if that is the case, they really should have explained it to you with an apology, rather than putting you in this situation. If they reject the sale again argue with Toshiba about it. If you keep them on the phone long enough they might give you a credit toward your next purchase bringing the price closer to what you were originally expecting. -
The thing is, I don't think the pricing was a mistake. They had just come out with this notebook on the 4th of July weekend and listed it at $727 initially. Then they took an additional $50 off due to the 4th of July sale to put the laptop at $677. It was at that amount for the entire weekend. Then they put it back to $727 the next day (July 7th), and due to the increasing popularity of the laptop, they bumped it up to $800 on July 8.
I could understand if it was a mistake. But to me, it seems like they're getting greedy. -
But yes Toshiba will be greedy. Most major computer companies will be if given the opportunity! I've had my own share of experiences with that haha
.
I hope everything works out for you and you get a result that makes you happy. Toshiba isn't the best company to deal with sometimes, but I've had great experiences with their products. Personally I would give in and pay the extra dough to get the machine I like, but still I'd fight for a discount because of all this rigamarole.
Good luck with all. I hope you post your final result.

Still says awaiting credit card verification 4 days later. I think they're trying to get me to cancel it myself so it does not look so bad on their part this time. A representative mentioned that they would call if there were any problems. He also said in an e-mail that it takes 24-48 hours max (even though they say orders ship within 24 hours if placed before 11 am as well when you order). I'll give them until Monday before I cancel it myself with my criticisms.
If any company were actually this inefficient in verifying or processing orders, they would be out of business. -
After over a week, they finally approved the order.
. I had sent my final e-mail today, and less than 2 hours after, they approved and are shipping everything (except the laptop which is on backorder until the 25th).
Unhappy with Toshiba
