Hey all - Just thought you'd like to know that those of us with first gen X205's can download the drivers and utilities from the SLI 1 and 3 support websites. Probably most importantly - the video drivers have been updated.

After installing the new nvidia driver it shows a driver date of 9.13.

I tried the video and audio. Had problems with both. I would have figured that they would be identicle drivers for all X205 models, but apparently not.

What problems did you have? I'm sure these models use the exact same chipset - sans the turbo memory and swapping the 8700 for 2 8600's.

I'm using both and having no problems.

Can't remeber the video driver problem, either hd dvd didn't work, or I had lousy performance... The sound driver loaded, but had no sound, and when installing the old driver, windows would not load after restart and said it was scanning and fixing problems....lasted for about 10 min straight! I wish I could just leave things alone, but I always have to try the latest and greatest drivers.....

We're inveterate tinkerers - we can't just leave things alone!

I had the sound problem till the first time I started windows media player - after that it worked fine.

However, i just got done with a clean VIsta install because I wanted all of the users folder on the second hard drive. I used Windows AIK to do that so I had to go it from scratch - I'm reinstalling everything now with the new drivers so I'll report back on how it goes.

Update on the video drivers for the SLI x205s...
    (im running Vista)

They must be based on the 163.44+ series as they run Bioshock quite well...
Think they have the WHQL cert so that would make them based on the 163.69 series despite their 15x.xx designation.

Like the stock drivers for the pre-SLI x205s, they enable all the laptop features and give you the DX10 enhancments making them argueably the best drivers out for the x205 series.

    They also disable overclocking. /sigh

I tried these and they worked but in FEAR it would never let me select any of the 16:10 aspect ratio resolutions such as 1280x800 and it would always default the game resolution to 640x480, weird drivers.

first, a quick thanks to this site and all the great help i've received in the past.

to my current issue, i just installed the display drivers linked above and so far have no problems with my laptop. however, after doing that, when i connect to my hd tv via an hdmi cable, the image on the tv seems to be overscanned (not sure if that's the right word). it's drawing all of my desktop, but it's like it's zoomed in slightly and i can't see the outer edge of my desktop. the top, bottom, left and right sides are all clipped by about 100 or so pixels (enough to make the task bar fully off screen).

this might have been better off as a new post, but since this occurred after installing the drivers i found on this post, i thought i would try this thread first.

any thoughts or help would be great.

    thanks!

I'm downloading the Nvidia driver now. My Sli3 just came yesterday, and Bioshock crashes at startup with the installed driver.

If this doesn't fix it, any suggestions? Portal and HL2Ep2 seem to run fine

Not sure what to tell you, you need at least the163.44 drivers but you cannot just use any 3rd party drivers as toshiba modifies the drivers to work in sli on the intel chipset. So you would need to find modified drivers that will enable sli on the intel chipsets and I don't know were you could find these drivers, maybe do a google search for nvidia drivers to enable sli on intel chipsets.

Are you sure Toshiba modifies their drivers? I heard modded drivers from laptopvideo2go work just fine on the x205 sli.

I had this problem on another PC. Try updating to the very latest DirectX version from Microsoft. That fixed it for me. It wasn't driver related at all.

Curious, got two questions.... Got a X205-SLi1 btw

Been running the laptopvideo2go drivers since I got it, 163.75, what are the laptops features I'm missing out on? And also, SLI seems to be working fine with them, so what's the talk of needing special drivers? Scoring upper 6K's in 3DMark06, which was about 2500 more than I was getting with the single 8700M GT in the BestBuy X205, so, what am I missing? Should I go back to the stock SLi Toshiba drivers?

You're not missing out at all really. SLI is enabled in 163.75. Guys are prefering stock drivers for x205 non SLI. Those let you overclock very well. Personnally I prefer 158.45 over stock since they overclock and play bioshock perfectly. However, I'm going back to 163.75 since I had my overclock fun and it has some DX10 enhancements and hardware level h264 decoding.

I see some of you are running XP SP3 on your x205, what are you using for a sound card driver? I have been trying for the last 2 days to no avail. I don't like having a mute computer...PLEASE HELP.

I know with SP2 you can use the Toshiba Vista sound card drivers, or I prefer the Realtek HD audio drivers, straight from Realtek for XP.... But, I'm running SP2, not 3, but both should still work. A biggie though is for atleat SP2, you have to install the Hotfix KB888111 first for the HD audio bus support, but not positive on SP3. Search the forums for that hotfix if you haven't and see what it says as far as SP3 support for our audio

I think this might have to do with the fact that PC monitors are 16:10 and TV monitors are 16:9

Yeah, I've tried the hotfix, but there's no support for sp3, considering I haven't noticed too much diff between sp2 and 3, I may just slipstream hd drivers into sp2 and reinstall again. I really don't want to do that though.

Latest Update-Great news....I found DriverAgent.com and for $29/yr, they scan your computer and tell you what driver you need and provide the download. I was reluctant, but it had a 30 day guarantee and they found every driver except hd audio modem driver, in 10 minutes, my computer is all fixed!!
