I was looking into maybe buying the Satellite A505-S6969 off newegg and I was just looking into how friendly recent Toshiba laptops are for upgrades. For example most Dells have their BIOS locked to not allow any upgrades, and most lenovo and HP laptops need specialized parts (ex. wireless cards) or it simply wont work.

Off the bat it doesn't look like I'll be upgrading this laptop right away (for the most part ;) ) But I will probably upgrade the processor pretty soon and I might throw in an intel 5350 wireless card because I have one lying around, so I just wanted to make sure it'd be upgrade friendly. Thanks for your input.

Since that model is configurable with a number of processors up to a t9600 and the models share the same BIOS would expect you could upgrade.

If it's anything like my Qosmio, there is no direct access to cpu, you have to pretty much take the whole thing apart, flip over the mobo to get at heatsink/cpu.

One upgrade you might want to look @ is the backlit keyboard. You can get it from nationalparts.com.
