I recently purchased this laptop and noticed that it uses the Intel HM76 Express Chipset, which means it is upgradeable to a few Core i7 CPUs that comply with Socket G2 specifications. However, when I called Toshiba support to confirm this, a representative said the current CPU - an Intel Core i3 2370M - is embedded and therefore cannot be upgraded. I'm not sure if he was entirely sure what he was talking about. Does anyone know if this is true?

It's quite a large laptop, so I wouldn't expect the CPU to be soldered to the board (though it is completely possible that it is). By the way, why would you want to upgrade the CPU? Most people won't see any benefit from that unless you use the CPU at 100% utilisation for long periods - for instance, you create a lot of videos and it takes hours to process them, might speed that up by a few minutes.

The thing is, I can get a Core i7 3610QM from a friend who works at a computer store for half of its price, which comes around to $150. That's quite a nice upgrade for a low price, especially from a 2nd generation i3 Sandy Bridge. And, yeah, I use Photoshop a lot and Avid as well.
