    Hi,
Does anybody have any experience with upgrading ram in their m50 canadian version?
I checked with toshiba.ca, and according to the website, it's using DDR2 ram,
but somehow, from other websites, i got the impression that it is DDR type RAM.
Can we find out from the device manager what type of ram we are using?

Can anybody please give me some input? FYI, my lappie is M50-MX5 series.

It's DDR2, I chucked 512MB in mine, works like a charm, DDR2 is cheaper too.

I used 533mhz stuff, but there isn't any point, just get 400mhz stuff.

If you unsure what kind of RAM installed in your notebook, you could use cpu-z to check it out, get it here

Zak's right for the most part. If you have the Pentium M processor instead of the Celeron, you can utilize the 533MHz DDR2, which is what I have in my M60 (big brother to the M50, M55). Zak has a Celeron processor which can only utilize 400MHz DDR2, so as he bought the 533MHz for his machine, it downclocked the RAM to a speed it can use (400MHz), which doesn't hurt anything at all. You machine won't even work with regular DDR RAM, it needs DDR2.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Zak, Sky Walker and Matt

I downloaded the cpu-z and it says that I have DDR-SDRAM installed in slot#1.
Does this really mean that i can only expand it with another DDR?

If it's true that's dissapointing, since toshiba.ca claimed it as DDR2.

It's DDR2, I thought that as well, after looking around, I found out it was DRR2, Have you got a Celeron or a Pentium?

I thought you had the Celeron for some reason, jenson04 is right about needing 533mhz stuff if you have a Pentium. :)

i'm using pentium m 750. Based on the RAM serial number that CPU Z shows, i confirmed with samsung website, that the preinstalled ram is indeed DDR-SDRAM. Are you using m50 or m55 series? in crucial.com, it specifies that there two different types of m55, one that uses ddr and another one that uses ddr2. While for m50, it only uses ddr.

Thanks a lot for the inputs zak, i really appreciate them.

I have an M50, but it's the celleron one, I had a look on that website too, and was really unsure about it, but DDR2 definatly went into my laptop.

I think your CPU needs 533Mhz stuff too, and I thought that it ony came in DDR2?
