I am wondering how easy it is to upgrade the M30X DVD/CD-RW drive. Can i pop the thing out myself and put a new on in or will i have to take it in? The rep at Toshiba said the M30X must be worked on by a professional for upgrades, but i have quite a bit of experience with computers and am a computer science major--so im like a professional right?[ ;)] If i can replace it on my own....do i have to get a drive from toshiba or can i find a different drive? Can i upgrade my CPU easily? Is there any way to install more video memory? I have the Radeon 9700 with 64MB of memory. I know it is possible on some systems, but not many. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

    Hey Zinger,

Upgrading the parts in your notebook is not that hard if you know what to do. You may have computer experience and could even be a PhD, but without knowing what you have to remove to get access to the parts, it won't help. The best resource is a Service Manual for your specific notebook. You may be able to find it on Kazaa or some other P2P program, but it's normally not readily available to the general public.

Depending on how the optical drive is mounted into your system, you may have to open 50% of your notebook to get access to the screws on the inside, but it may only have 1 screw on the outside that's holding it in place. And to get to the CPU, I believe you pretty much need to take apart approx 75% of the system to get access. Try to obtain this service manual first, or if you can locate the full directions on how to upgrade it on your specific model on the web before trying to upgrade.

Regarding the video card, no, it's not possible to upgrade the video memory, it's soldered to the systemboard.

If you want to do it yourself best thing is to get a service manual ( good luck ) or go to forums dedicated to the m30x and ask there ( there are some mostly german ! ) .

Some upgardes are very easy indeed , depending on the model .

How can you change the HDD?
I'm planning on buying one M30X but can't see the "disk" door.
    Where is it?

    Rjtd,

The HDD is locate on the underside of the notebook. If you have the front of the notebook facing you, it should be on the front left corner. There should only be 1 screw holding the plate down.
