    Hello All,

First post here so I hope I don't screw it up. I just recently purchased my x305 and passed on my x205 to my wife. I am really having a hard time figuring out how to open this thing up to upgrade the CPU. I realize that this is a new model so any info will be limited but I was hoping someone could give some sort of idea how difficult it would be to do this and how do I even begin. :)

    Thanks in advance,

    Scott

Okay, first I have the same model as you, so what processor are you aiming for? have you upgraded the memory as well? Here goes....taking this beast apart is relatively easy. First take out all the screws in the base(bottom), next, gently pry the black trim right above the keyboard, below the media buttons. Next remove the four screws holing the keyboard( beware the ribbon cables, make sure to gently pry the white part of the ribbon cable base upwards) make a mental note of where everything is, though it only goes back one way. After removing the keyboard, you should now see the top part of the mobo, and namely the gpu with heatsink. Next take out the screws under the hard drive(s), should be two. Now for the srews on the black trim under the keyboard. Then from there you'll need to remove the four screws holding the display, and accordingly, the four screws holding the gpu. Take note that the gpu sits on top of a PCI express 16x port(mini). Again, gently pry the gpu with heatsink out of its small bay under the monitor black retaining plastic. From here on it is pretty much self explanatory....look for the screws on the mainboard with gold boxes around them, as well there is a retaining screw under the (pci express) network card(held by two screws). Just be slow and gentle, and make note where everything was (cables and screws). A good suggestion when dealing with alot of parts is to color code them with paint markers, while they are connected if possible, so that the base and the connection has the same color. Thanks for your time, and let me know how the processor upgrade goes. If all is well, i will follow suit, and when I can find another gpu I'll make the jump as well.

So you are saying that the GPU on these laptops are removeable and possibly upgradeable ?? I have a friend that has the Qosmio F55 would it be the same for that model laptop ?? Thanks for any info. God Bless :)

I am saying that they are removable, as well they use a new MXM slot, specified as MXM 3.0 (not to be confused with MXM III), as it offers way more bandwidth (equivalent to PCI Express 16X), but if it does fall into the right category, then yes it should be upgradeable, assuming that the drivers are available. Your welcome, and God bless you too...

I wonder if it is possible to replace the P7350 with T9300 CPU.

You know, I'm wondering the same thing. When Payday comes around, I'll find out, only I'm shooting for an Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 2.53GHz 6MB L2 Cache Socket P 25W Dual-Core Processor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111007

Next week I must buy notebook for sure and the only two options I like are the new Asus G50V-A1 and this strange Qosmio X305-Q701, but the CPU is very slow  compared to the rest of the system.

    Any suggestions would be nice.

I suggest you wait for me to try it out, we know the gpu is upgradeable, but dont know about the cpu. Personally this thing eats games for brunch, and i am very impressed, despite the clock speed. Yes I think I'm going to go all the way with this notebook with upgrades, it definitely has the potential.

Wait, so you mean you can replace the 9700 with a 9800GT? Without special tools etc? What about cooling? Or, even buying one?
If it can be done, then this one looks more and more promising. I would have to buy the UK version which is more expensive, but still...The main reason I have doubts about this machine is the GPU.
