    Hi
I need some advice here, it seems that my USB ports are not being recognised on my laptop. I have previously plugged in items and they are not being recognised at all. I do not know if I need to upgrade drivers, or let alone replace the ports?
Is this worthwhile doing, as my device manager says USB malfunction on the task bar. Is this a hard job to do, pull apart laptop to replace? Has anyone done this before, had to replace USB ports?
I am not sure if I will need a new laptop if this is the case. It sounds like a costly procedure to do.
Hope i can get some answers here.
    Thank you

I had a friend with a TE2100 and the USB controller died, and the only way to fix it is replace the motherboard. With such an old system it is not worth fixing it as it will cost the same if not more than a new system.

EDIT: actually, you could get a USB 2.0 PC Card, they are about $30 from newegg. They are not the most attractive solution, but it does delay the cost of replacement for a while longer.

I never was able to fix the usb problem on my satellite, but I got around it by using a PCMCI card to give me 2 new usb ports.
