It cost me $1899 and received from Toshiba Direct on February 25th, used for six weeks and on April 12 the machine didn’t boot.
Sent to Toshiba for repair and I asked if they could replace my laptop with a new one.
They refused to replace my machine with a new one, they will fix the hard disc and will send it back to me.
I even asked for my money back, and they refused because the problem accords after the thirty day return period.

Sounds about right to me. It usually takes 3 or more repairs for a "lemon" to be declared, which is when you'd be entitled to a new machine.

Thanks for the comment Pitabred.
I only decided to buy Tecra for their reliability as they say.
And my machine failure after six weeks of normal use approved some thing else. -
That's too bad. Hope you didn't have too much data that will be lost, or had backups.
On a positive note, since it's just a hard drive they'll likely just replace the drive and it should be as good as new. -
Um.. It was a bard hard drive. get over yourself.
A bad hard drive does not mean the laptop is defective. It means the laptop, that is likely made by Hitachi/IBM is defective. -
soul schizm and MaxxRacer thank you very much.
I am supposed to receive my laptop back today.
I always use memory sticks for my important data so not much of data lost in this incident. -
my M5 sucks. It runs way too hot, got it in Nov 06, , error upon error..don't ever hope to actually burn your reinstall disks..tried 5 times. The bloatware is truly amazing my boot up time is a solid 3-4 minutes.
I've had 6 laptops over the years and never had one bad pixel...but Toshiba changed that claim, a nice Green one in the middle of the screen. Batter life is terrible, BUT to be fair the battery is probably getting old, but straight out of the box it was suprising to get 2 hours out of it.
The heat is really the worst part, the fan always runs on high and it's the first laptop that really can burn your leg if your wearing shorts!
This thing was terrible and I'm counting the days to get a Vostoro or Lenovo -
Hi klonny,
Don't be very disappointed because laptops need some housekeeping.
First you need to go to Toshiba tech support page and click Downloads, then inter your laptop data. There are some updates that you need to download them yourself such as the Bios update, Display driver, and other updates that will improve your machine performance.

Second, laptops need to be opened to remove dusts accumulated inside your machine by using air buster. If you can do it yourself that is ok or otherwise you need someone to do it for you. I opened my laptop a week ago and was amazed of the quantity of dust accumulated around the fan which was the main cause of the over heat.
Also go to software’s install and uninstall utility at your control panel and remove any software that you are no more using. But be careful of what you are removing.
Now I am happy with my laptop and hopefully you will be. -
Hard drives are hit and miss type of things when buying a USB or sata 100GB or 1 Terabyte, they don't have very good quality control, And as some one posted before they are not made by toshiba and the laptop is not bad becuase 1 thing died.

Thank Runekinight95, you are right and I am now happy with my laptop.
By the way the crash was on April 07.
Very disappointed with my New Tecra M5
