I have a Satellite L305-S5909 (can be found here) laptop. In the BIOS, Intel Virtualization Technology is showing, but is greyed out and disabled (Intel Dynamic Acceleration is also greyed out).
Is there an advanced BIOS config available on this machine that will allow me to enable hardware virtualization? A BIOS update? I plan on running XP Pro 32bit on a VM on this machine.
Also, it states InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev. 3.5
Is this my BIOS brand? in Main, it shows BIOS version 1.20

The P7350 is an OEM cpu aka offroad cpu. Its a stripped down processor for cheaper cost. It doesnt have the propriety Intel technology like IVT or IDA
EDIT: Or maybe it does... I suggest you read this -
So I'm basically out of luck if I want to run a VM on this machine?
-
what? no...
IVT is just an extra set of CPU instructions that speeds/optimises the cpu when running virtual machines. The virt software itself also needs to be capable of it too.
You could run Virtual box without IVT without any performance loss. If your CPU has IVT then you can enable VT-x in Virtual box. -
Thank you flipfire, I was under the impression that software vitualization slowed up a VM a good bit and was only support by a few VM solutions. I'm new to VMs, but have been reading up on them a lot the past few days.
I got this machine to use at work. I need to run a few programs that require a 32bit operating system (a couple require XP Pro specifically). I could wipe the HD and install XP pro or dual boot, but I'd prefer to keep Vista 64bit and run anything that requires XP Pro 32bit in a VM. -
Heres a benchmark with and without IVT.

Its practically no difference. Ok maybe a few seconds difference... -
IM new here what is actually "Intel Virtualization Technology ", I have it also...
I have read the thread but don't understand (sorry) -
You can also watch this nice little demo. -
