Hi i just bought a A205-S4577 my notebook and vista premium and whatever else seems to be taking up to much space. I don't have anything on it that takes up that much space but it says that it is using 36 gbs. Is this correct or is it because of a lot of Pre-installed software?
    Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a lot of bloatware...Vista itself takes about 10-15GB...

Well vista takes up ~15gb and there might be a hidden recovery partition that take up a good chunk. Also all the trial software and preinstall software take up some space(shouldnt be alot)

I can't find anything on the partition that takes up that much space. When i go into the partition and select everything it says that it takes up 16gb. Where is the rest of the stuff?

Vista eats up space by creating restore points, shadow copies of your files, etc. Run a disk cleanup (Type "disk cleanup" without the ""'s in the start search bar) and when its done loading hit the second tab at the top. You can delete your restore points. To my surprise I did this a while ago and It freed 20 GB, that's right, 20 gigabytes of memory. I was surprised how much space system restores and shadow copies took up in Vista.

Hey bud, I've just dumped around 6GB of shadow/restore files after reading your post!

Disk space wasn't really a problem (about 25GB used from 2x60GB), but I just thought I'd see how much these shadow/restore files were eating up on my 6 week old Lappy...wow!

I'll have to remember to perform this operation once every month or two. :)

    Cheers!
