After using the notebook database search on this site, I finally found the 12,1" notebook that fits what I want and at a price I like: the Portege A605-P200. I didn't want a netbook where I would be stuck with an Atom processor and wanted at least a Core 2 Duo.

My question is, I'm seeing this notebooks being sold at amazon here

    http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Porté...ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1235644188&sr=1-3

and it's a Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 at 1.4 GHz. I didn't know how fast the 1.4 GHz would be say while surfing online, Office, playing youtube vids and buffering large size Apple.com movie trailers. No games I know but I don't do much than what I just mentioned. Since I saw a previous Toshiba review (the R500 I think?) that had a 1.33 GHz that sounded a little weak for liking by the user and was a little afraid if 1.4 GHz would be similar. I know there's a lotta bloatware on this machine, I've read brief reviews by people but I'd like to know if it's still capable if I got rid of all that bloatware.

    Thanks.

The 1.4Ghz C2D in the Portege A605 is definitely sufficient for surfing online, watching youtube videos and for office applications.
If you're looking for a 12" notebook, I'd suggest taking a look at the Lenovo X61. It should still be within your budget, yet provides a better build quality.

Thanks for your input. I've seen the X61s around and really liked the design but it was just a tad over my budget of $900. I woulda liked to configure it more on the lenovo website but that'd bring it over what I an afford.
