I worked on a girl from work's Toshiba laptop recently that had Webroot antivirus on it. She said that when the trial ran up Webroot somehow charged her credit card for a year of activation without her approval. I asked her how they got her # and the only thing she could think of was that she used it to buy the laptop at Best Buy.
How can they do this without an approval. The only way she knew was on her credit card statement. I don't think it works well at all since she had all kinds of viruses on it when I got it. Anyway, it's running good now and I made her set of recovery disks.
I just wondered how this could happen and if she ends up using those recovery disk with that software preinstalled will it ding her card again?

LOL, I'll bet you're not getting the WHOLE story there.

If her laptop was full of viruses, spyware, etc and she was viewing her account info online with her bank, etc, there's NO TELLING what all of her info was comprimised.

May I suggest you install a good antivirus, spyware sweeper, firewall and take her account OUT of the administrators group.... Sometimes you just have to protect folks from themselves....

Yea so far that was the only thing on her statement that she didn't approve. I got her set up on other AV/Spyware stuff now and you're right, I probably am not getting the whole story, but I didn't want to pry too much. Just odd that the Webroot that came with the Toshiba was the only one charged on her statement.
