I'm running a Satellite A65-S1068 and I just picked up a new battery old one is now obselete due to wear. Well whenever I stick in the new battery to charge the amber battery light comes on as if it were charging... ...for 5 seconds then it stops chargining it (amber light goes off)... for 5 seconds and repeats this cycle but I stick in my old battery to see if the same thing would happen well it didn't old battery charged properly. Is it the battery? I'm not sure anyone experiance something like this? I'm pretty sure this 5 second charge and 5 second rest isn't good.

The new battery they gave me was a similar one but not the one toshiba gave.
    OLD : 14.8V 4300mAh PA3384U-BRS 8Cell
    NEw : 14.8V 6600mAh PA3382-BAS/BRS and it's a few grams heavier so I'm assuming its a 12cell

EDIT:Laptop is rated for a max of 6.3 amps, also the chargers output is rated for a max of 6.3 amps not sure if that has anything do with it.

Where did you buy the notebook battery and is it Toshiba certified?

CompUSA it was under the "TAP" warranty, they give a 1 time battery replacement I checked the model number on the net and it looks like it's a standard replacement for it not sure if it was certified by Toshiba.

I'm not sure but I think it was made by Duracell it doesn't say anywhere but I tried PCWizard and it showed the manufactorer as duracell.

But should I go back and show them the problem? I got the battery like two weeks ago but never used it nor charged it, not sure they would like that.

The other battery doesn't act like this. I like this battery because it can almost last twice as long.

    Thanks

Thanks! However there is a problem again (this is getting weird) I'm guessing that if the is above 50% the 5 second charge/discharge stops not exacly sure why. I was on the road today and basicly totally drained it again and when I got to the charger it still does it. I see no immiediate danger but I will be cautious. I will only use this battery for the road either way.

Speaking of the road another weird problem occured. When my battery was running low I naturally put it to standby (I had a GPS running and didn't want to lose data and etc. didn't want to hibernate it either I might need a quick look back and etc) well when I closed the screen and one minute later I needed it I opened it and the computer wouldn't power on. I pressed power button nothing... I started clicking it repeatedly no go. So I cut the power put it back in and tried to boot it up, nothing power button doesn't respond. I get home hook it up to AC, my CMOS set up got corrupt but that's nothing I got into windows. So far it seems ok.

Next time I doubt I'll get a Toshiba :( if I do it will be from their site.
