I have a Toshiba u305 and I'm having a weird problem with the fan. Its going on and off from off to 100% on every 30 seconds or less. Is there a way to set a defined fan speed?
And is it normal to run at over 55 Celsius when web browsing?

clean you laptop fans?
are they dirty the fan are tempture control on most laptop
is you laptop crashing ? is geting hot ? -
It gets a bit warm at times, i have seen it get as high as 70 degrees Celsius
I dont think that the fans are dirty already, i have only had this for a few weeks now, but ill give it a shot.
There isnt any easy way to get into the fan housing, So I may have to give it a shot from the air compressor. -
I also have that fan issue where it turns on and off every 30 secs on my Toshiba A200. As far as I know, there is no way to set the fan speed for these notebooks
-
I don't think that the fan is a 100%, I have a A100 and there are four or five settings for the fan. When the the temperature hits past 80c, the fan is screaming. -
Is there a way you could PM me and let me know what kind of reduction i should do? And does it reduce the speed of the processor at all?

This is how I have set up RMClock on my notebook;
Open up RMClock, expand profiles, goto "power savings", then check off "use p-state..." for ac power and battery, check off only #0, in the boxes under.
Do the same for "maximal performace" but in the boxes, check off only the highest one.
On "performace on demand", so the same but check off all the boxes.
Now goto "Profiles" under current select maximal performance for now.
Now just lower the voltage("VID Select" under the table) a few at the beginning and one by one after that, and test it by running two Prime95's(if you have dual core) to make sure the system is stable for at least an hour. If its not stable, you computer will freeze, or reboot. Just make sure you don't change the "start up" drop down untill you know it's stable for sure, just use the "current".
It will not reduce the speed of the CPU
I have a T5200 and I undervolted it from 1.175V to 0.950V which is the lowest setting that I can go and its stable. So don't be afraid, it won't damage the CPU. When everything is stable, you can select for start up, which ever one you like. If you have an AMD, it's a little bit different, but there is no such thing as a AMD Toshiba yet, but soon. -
I also have a 305-s5127 and I'm really frustrated with the cooling. When in balanced or performance mode in Vista the fan is constantly going on and off. If I do ANYTHING besides moving the mouse around, the fan will spin up while the CPU works and then spin down if nothing else needs to be loaded. This can be from simply going to a new website or opening the file browser. The only way I have found to keep it cool enough is to run in power save mode which seems rediculous to me for such a powerful system. I don't understand if Toshibas thermal design is that bad or if santa rosa platforms all run that hot. the problem persists in battery or AC mode.
Its really frustrating because otherwise I really enjoy the laptop. The size is great and battery life is fantastic, but I can't deal with a fan going on and off every 3 seconds. If it stayed on that would be much more acceptable. Does anyone else have this problem??
